Smart Hostel Management App

One of the biggest challenges in hostel life is not the food or the rules , it's the chaos that comes with room allocation, facilities and daily communication. When new students shift in many want to change roommates as their preferences may not be syncing, some don't know which room they have been assigned to. As per now they handled by the warden manually, which often results to confusion , stress and a never-ending workload for hostel staff. 

Potential solution for the problem :

what if there was a single app that could make hostel life smoother for both students and wardens ?

The idea is to make an hostel management app where students can log in and instantly find their room number and roommate with matching preferences (AC/non-AC, sleeping schedule or Academic course) if they are not happy with the preferences they can raise a room-exchange request with the person that they prefer , which will directly goes to the warden for approval no messy paperwork or repeated visits . 13713214255?profile=RESIZE_710x

This app will also include a Hostel vacancy tracker, making it easier to see how many rooms are empty during admissions. Another helpful feature is AC usage notification , students can notify in advance if they don't want AC for a day, the in-charge will be alerted to switch it off saving electricity. To address everyday concerns, a Complaint box will be integrated, where issues like water , power or WI-FI problems go directly to the responsible staff . Future scope:

we can also add features such as attendance tracking, digital permissions for leaves and outings, making the app a complete hostel management system.

Of course there will be challenges building the app , making it lightweight and user-friendly and ensuring it is adopted by both students and staff , But isn't it worth trying ? This idea matters to me because I've seen first-hand the daily confusion during hostel shifting and facility management. Hostel is supposed to be a place where students can focus on studies and friendship not stress about logistics . A simple digital platform could make hostel living smarter,more peaceful and more enjoyable for everyone.

My idea is to design a Smart Mobile Charger that integrates modern sensors, microcontrollers, and IoT technology to transform charging into a safe, efficient, and eco-friendly process.

Core Features of the Smart Charger:

    • Once the connected device reaches 100%, the charger will cut off power supply internally.

    • This prevents battery stress and ensures that no current flows unnecessarily, reducing energy waste.

  2. Temperature & Overload Protection

    • The charger will be equipped with thermal sensors and voltage regulators.

    • If the charger detects overheating, over-current, or voltage fluctuations, it immediately disconnects power to avoid damage or fire hazards.

  3. Adaptive Current Flow

    • Unlike traditional chargers that deliver constant current, this charger will adjust current dynamically depending on the stage of charging.

    • Fast charging can be provided initially, followed by slower, safer charging near full capacity.

The Problem: When Words Don’t Come, Isolation Begins

Millions of children experience speech delays across the world, in some underprivileged communities it is more challengeable and stressful. Parents may not notice the early signs, either due to limited access to resources or lack of awareness and even teachers can be unequipped to help and perhaps most heartbreakingly, stigma and shame often silence the very conversations that could lead to help.

A child can feel deeply isolated from their own family and peers as they couldn’t express themselves and can be misunderstood as misbehavior, or their silence can be taken as shyness. The gap between them and their peers increases as time passes not just in language, but also in confidence, emotional stability, and social connections.

Who Gets Left Behind?

Although numerous tools and therapies exist, they may serve a limited segment of the population. That's where the system is lacking:

  • High Cost & Clinical Dependency: The majority of speech delays needs professionally diagnosed doctors and requires therapy, which is costty and out of reach for people expecially in rural or in low income regions.
  • Limited Outreach: Awareness campaigns are usually held in urban areas thus it neglects societies where they couldnt communicate by conventional means.
  • Tech Barriers: Current apps and platforms take English proficiency, smartphone and consistent internet access for granted which is simply impossible for many families in the society.

Why It Matters to Me: A Personal Lens of Empathy

This idea is deeply personal. I’ve witnessed how delayed speech can isolate a child not just from the conversations, but also from forming connections. I’ve seen this confusion in many parent’s eyes, whether or not to worry or wait for the child. I’ve seen the frustration of many teachers who want to help but couldn't know how to help.

This project is born from empathy. It’s a response to silence the society that surrounds speech delay of unspoken words, but also the societal silence that keeps families from seeking help. And so I want to create something that actually breaks the silence.

The Idea: SWAR - A Community-Based Speech Inclusion Kit

“Swar”: “voice” in many Indian languages. It’s about restoring connections, dignity and agency.

Picture a toolkit that does not depend on costly equipment or clinical terminology. One that communicates in the language of the community—literally and metaphorically.

Contents of the toolkit:

 

- Emotion Cards with Local Context:
Visual cards which illustrating emotions and some basic needs like (e.g., hunger, pain, joy) with culturally recognizable imagm
ery.


- Story Mats & Puppet Kits:
Affordable story mats and puppets that potrays expressive play which can be used by teachers and parents to interact with the child.


- Multilingual Audio Prompts:
Simple recordings in local dialects that gives instructions to caregivers on what to look for and how to react by distributing them through radio, WhatsApp, or SD cards.


- Listening Circles:
Frequent meetings where parents can discuss their experiences and learn from the local health workers, and become aware. No criticism, only support.ṁ


- Teacher Toolkit 2.0:
A laminated flipbook with visual reminders, screening questions, and classroom exercises. For non-specialist teachers.

 

- Community Workshops: Conducted by trained volunteers—maybe local educators or health workers—these workshops create open discussion, break stigma, and establish collective consciousness.

MSMEs (Micro Small Medium Enterprises) contribute to around 30% of India's GDP. They form the backbone and the future for turning India into an Industry-driven economy from Service-driven economy. Many of them operate with outdated and inefficient machinery, reducing productivity and losing the edge to foreign manufacturers.

The idea is to create a dedicated marketplace for MSMEs to buy, sell and upgrade machinery. On the platform, verified vendors and providers could list their solutions while the MSMEs could post specific upgrades/ requirements for their needs with financing options. The website can also compare and suggest equipment for their needs. Platform will provide data on machines performance, costs ROI of upgrades with industry benchmarks and financial insights.

There are platforms like IndiaMart and Tradeindia but mainly act as broad b2b directories, not focusing specifically on machinery or provide trusted upgrade ways. Also, financing is one of the major pain point for msmes which these platforms rarely integrated. Additionally, there is very little personalized guidance or proper information available,that leaves business owners confused about upgrades/ needs.

This idea benifits MSMEs, who gain access to better equipment/machinery increasing productivity and creating jobs. Stronger MSMEs also create a stable environment for local businesses to thrive(direct and indirect).

This problem matters to me because msmes aren't just businesses but are the key players for the country's stability and growth. I have seen how lack of awareness and financial support can hold back small businesses.

The platform can use Ai to recommend upgrades for needs and budget for the business. Over time, IoT-based analytics could enhance efficiency and accuracy.

BookVerse is a smart, hyper-local mobile app designed exclusively for our university students. It's more than just a marketplace; it's an intelligent platform that directly connects a junior's needs with a senior's resources.

This fully automatic device gives you complete control over how your plant is cared for. With its expandable claw, it securely fits a wide range of pot sizes, making it versatile for any indoor setup. It’s connected to a large water reservoir, so you don’t have to constantly refill it, keeping plant care simple and stress-free. Best of all, it’s entirely customizable: set the days and times for watering, choose between modes like a gentle mist or a nourishing shower. Additionaly, it has a probe in the pot in order to track the moisture levels and temperature of the soil, . The Aquapal will be paired with an app that displays the data as well as the water levels in the reservoir for users to know when to refill it, this app allows the user to monitor the health of their plant anywhere, anytime. The app also takes queries from the user about their plant, whether it be when to water their specific plant or any concerns regarding their health, using the built in AI that takes your plants past history to make personalised informative suggestions for the users plant specifically. This product is designed for people that want indoor plants but have a busy schedule where they are unable to properly take care of their plant. Between 2015 and 2021, India lost 33.9 million hectares of crops due to excess rain and another 35 million hectares because of drought, according to the World Economic Forum. These losses show how farmers are deeply affected and also threaten the country’s food security.


The Idea-
CropShield is an IoT-based system designed to help farmers protect their crops from sudden heavy rain and strong winds.
Initially, I thought of using motorized covers that automatically deploy using sensors when it rains heavily after a certain point. But covers can be expensive and may not survive strong storms. So I came up with a better approach:
• When water starts pooling in the fields, soil moisture and water-level sensors detect excess water. These sensors send data to a central IoT controller connected with Wi-Fi. If the water crosses a set threshold, the system automatically activates pumps or solenoid valves to redirect water into farm ponds, storage tanks, or underground recharge pits.
• This not only reduces crop damage but also allows the stored water to be reused for irrigation or when we direct them to underground it gradually increase the groundwater levels.
For strong winds, CropShield also includes:
• Anemometers (wind speed sensors) are installed on the farm. These, combined with real-time weather forecast APIs, allow the system to predict and detect dangerous wind speeds. The IoT controller then sends instant alerts to farmers via SMS, app notifications, or even voice calls in local language.
• Alongside alerts, farmers can use low-cost rope grids, netting, or pole supports to stabilize vulnerable crops. The advance warning also gives them time to reinforce plants or harvest early if needed.

• Drones: Future versions might use drones to deploy protective sheets over small, high-value crops.
• Scalability: A modular design ensures the system works for both small farms and large agricultural operations.
