Every year, millions of sheets of paper are used in universities for notes, assignments, and brainstorming—most of which are thrown away after exams. This contributes to deforestation and paper waste, even though most of the content could easily be digitized.

GreenPrint is a sustainable solution that combines reusable smart notebooks with cloud technology. The notebook uses erasable, rewritable pages (specialized eco-paper compatible with friction pens). Once a page is filled, students can scan it using the GreenPrint mobile app, which automatically converts the notes into searchable digital text and syncs them to Google Drive, OneDrive, or Campus servers. After scanning, the student can erase the page with a simple wipe, reusing the same notebook hundreds of times.

This reduces paper usage drastically while giving students a hybrid experience—the comfort of handwritten notes with the convenience of digital storage. Unlike regular e-tablets, GreenPrint does not require batteries, making it affordable and environmentally friendly.

The beneficiaries are students, educators, and the environment. Students save money on notebooks, teachers get easier access to organized submissions, and campuses lower their carbon footprint.

GreenPrint isn’t just about reducing waste—it’s about reshaping the way students learn and record knowledge in a sustainable, tech-driven, yet personal way.

Quickmed- an automated medicine vending machine

In today’s fast-moving lifestyle, access to basic medicines often becomes a challenge, especially during late hours or in emergency situations. Pharmacies may remain closed, or the nearest medical store might be too far to reach. This can cause unnecessary delays in treatment for minor health issues such as fever, headache, cold, sprains or small injuries.

QuickMed is a unique and smart vending machine designed to dispense basic OTC medicines and essential healthcare products like paracetamol, antiseptic creams, band-aids,volinis,crepe bangades, hand sanitizers, and masks. Installed in campuses, railway stations, hostels, and public places, the machine works through digital payment systems (UPI,credit/debit cards), ensuring 24/7 availability.

The system is connected to a central database that tracks stock levels and automatically notifies suppliers when refilling is needed. Medicines are organized in separate slots with QR/barcode scanning to prevent errors. Additionally, a small display provides dosage information and warnings to promote safe usage.

Every day, millions of disposable plastic spoons and forks are thrown away in hostels, cafeterias, and food outlets. These take hundreds of years to decompose, pollute the environment, and harm marine life.

Gaps in Current Solutions:
•Plastic cutlery: Cheap but harmful.
•Wooden/bamboo spoons: Eco-friendly but not always tasty, can splinter, and cost more.
•Biodegradable plastic: Still not widespread, often requires industrial composting facilities.

Proposed Solution: [Edible Spoons]
•Made from grains like millets, rice, corn, or wheat, baked into spoon shapes.
•Stay strong during use but can be eaten after the meal (crispy, flavored options).
•Even if not eaten, they naturally decompose within days, leaving no waste.

Who Benefits:
•Users (students/customers): A fun and eco-friendly alternative, plus an extra snack.
•Food vendors/hostels: Stand out as sustainable brands, reduce waste management costs.
•Community & Environment: Reduced single-use plastic, healthier planet.

Why This Problem Matters to Me:
I’ve seen the amount of plastic spoons and forks piling up after hostel mess hours or events. It made me realize how much waste is generated just from something used for 5 minutes. An edible spoon solves this in a practical and creative way.

Technical Details:
•Ingredients: Millet flour, rice flour, whole wheat, natural flavors (jeera, chocolate, vanilla).
•Durability: Withstands hot soups and curries for ~20–30 minutes.
•Shelf life: 6–9 months if stored dry.
•Cost: Around ₹10-12 per spoon at scale, competitive with wooden cutlery.

Driving Change: AI-Powered Traffic Management

One of the largest issues in urban cities is traffic congestion; it squanders precious time, money, and gas and increases pollution. General traffic lights have a fixed timer that follows a predetermined timed sequence like green for 20 seconds, orange for 5 seconds, and then red for 30 seconds, and it goes back to green in a loop. However, this can lead to traffic congestion and is highly inefficient, as the traffic on each road is different, and some might need more time for the light to be green to avoid traffic congestion, and some will need less. Even in smart traffic light cities, there is no integration with real-time traffic data, public transport, and emergency vehicles.

My idea is to build a traffic control system that uses artificial intelligence, which basically uses real-time information from sensors at intersections or signals, CCTV cameras, and cars that use GPS to dynamically change the time for each signal for a road; the time in green is higher for a road with more cars and less for one with fewer cars.

Current solutions for traffic congestion are like Google Maps or Apple Maps, and these route people to a different route, but they don’t solve the problem of traffic congestion. Likewise, governments test smart lights, but they are on a smaller scale and don’t have citywide linkage.

Implementing a traffic control system that uses AI in place of traditional traffic signals will benefit commuters daily, as it will save them time and reduce their stress. Another upside is that due to reduced congestion, they will have improved fuel economy and lower levels of pollution. Most importantly, emergency services also will have better response times, and this will help save lives.

This problem is important to me because I notice traffic congestion on a daily basis in my city, burning away hours of productivity and causing frustration. With current technology, we can make traffic not just tolerable but predictable and efficient.

Tracking and Securing Belongings in Hostels

The Problem:

In hostels, residents share rooms and common areas, making personal belongings vulnerable. Daily issues include:

- Misplaced chargers, bottles, or books.

- Accidental swaps (look-alike shoes, umbrellas, headphones).

- Theft or borrowing without permission.

- Stress over valuables (laptops, wallets, headphones) when rooms are unlocked.

This situation leads to wasted time, distrust among roommates, and financial loss.

Gaps in Current Solutions

Locks and cupboards protect only items stored inside; daily-use items remain exposed.

Name labels and markers are easy to peel off and do not prevent misuse.

CCTV in hostels only helps after something is stolen, not as a preventive measure.

Hostel rules about not touching others’ belongings are rarely enforced.

Who Benefits

Users (students and residents) gain peace of mind, fewer lost items, and less conflict.

Buyers (parents and management) experience reduced complaints, lower replacement costs, and a better hostel reputation.

The community benefits by creating a culture of respect, responsibility, and trust in shared living spaces.

Why This Matters to Me

As a hostel resident, I understand how frustrating it is to lose even small items like a charger or headphones. These things may not always be expensive, but they are crucial for daily life. Solving this issue will improve not only convenience but also trust and harmony in shared living.

Optional Technical Details

Smart tags (QR/NFC) are stickers that can be scanned to show ownership.

Low-cost Bluetooth trackers are affordable devices connected to a shared app for roommates.

A digital lost and found board is a centralized app or noticeboard synced with tags where people can claim reported items.

AI Powered Repair Reporting System

Every one of us has faced inconveniences during our hostel stay. It could have been roommate issues, noisy neighbours, or maintenance troubles. Today, I want to offer a solution to at least one of these problems.

When I moved into the hostel, my cupboard came with a very rusty closet rod. As someone with very sensitive skin, I started getting rashes as the rust fell on my clothes. Sharing bathroom stalls with dozens of people can be frustrating, especially when cleaning or repairs take longer than expected. Like many others, I quickly discovered that maintenance issues - from broken fixtures to leaky pipes - can become a daily inconvenience when repairs aren’t addressed promptly.

We did have a solution: A physical complaint register. We had to fill it up if we had any problems, and the warden would then place a request with the repairman to fix the issue.

The existing solution, however, came with its own set of challenges. Firstly, we had no idea when the repairman would come to fix an issue. This left room for embarrassing moments like plumbers walking into the bathroom while it was in use, or carpenters entering rooms while students were changing.

These are very common issues for people living in hostel accommodations. Many have even come to see these “minor inconveniences” as a normal part of hostel life. Funnily enough, all of these inconveniences can be resolved with a very simple solution: an app.

On this app, students will be able to directly report their concerns and upload pictures with a description of their issue. The repairman will instantly be notified of the issue, eliminating the middleman communication that causes delays. But where does AI come into play here? We can smartly implement an AI to optimise the repairman’s schedule, minimizing the number of trips he needs to make. The schedule can be made publicly visible, giving everyone an exact time of when said issue will be resolved while preventing embarrassing moments for all parties. The AI model can also be used to organise the tasks based priority with higher priority issues being pushed up. This also helps out the wardens and other support staff who would otherwise have to manually categorise all these tasks.

A simple app like this can have a huge impact on one’s hostel stay. It is not just a solution for the residents, but improves the lives of the repairmen, the wardens, the cleaners and all the staff involved in hostel maintenance.
