Edible Smart Expiry Tags – Ending Food Waste at Homes

Problem:

In every household, food often goes to waste because expiry dates on packaging are vague. “Best before” doesn’t mean spoiled, but most people throw items out early to be safe. On the other side, some accidentally eat expired food because labels are small, confusing, or faded. This creates two problems: huge food wastage and health risks.

Gap in Current Solutions:

•Printed expiry dates are static → they don’t reflect actual storage conditions.

•Smart fridges exist, but they are too expensive and not widely adopted.

•No low-cost, everyday solution that works for everyone.

Proposed Solution:

My idea is Edible Smart Expiry Tags:

•Small, non-toxic, edible tags/stickers placed on food packaging.

•The tag changes color naturally (green → yellow → red) depending on real freshness, not just printed dates.

•The tag can be dissolved in water (safe, biodegradable) when discarded, leaving no waste.

Who Benefits:

Families/Students: Avoid throwing away safe food, save money, eat healthier.

Retailers: Reduce wastage in grocery stores and improve stock rotation.

Environment: Less food waste → less methane release from landfills.

Why It Matters to Me:

At home, I’ve seen perfectly good food thrown away just because of unclear expiry dates, while sometimes spoiled items went unnoticed until too late. A simple color-based solution would make food safety obvious and help everyone waste less.

Optional Tech Details:

•Tags made from safe biopolymers + natural pH-sensitive compounds (like anthocyanins from red cabbage).

•Low-cost, scalable, eco-friendly.

•Works on packaged goods, dairy, meat, and even fresh produce.

Self Wiping Bike Helmet

Riding a bike is fun but helmets get dirty fast. Sweat dust rain and pollution all make them wet and smelly. Cleaning them is annoying and most people just ignore it. I thought it would be great if the helmet could clean itself.

The idea is simple. The outside of the helmet will have a surface that can wipe off dust water and mud. That way even if it rains or the road is dusty the helmet stays clean. The inside will have a soft little cloth system that moves and wipes away sweat so it does not smell or get wet. There will be small sensors that know when the helmet is dirty or wet and they will turn the cleaning on only when needed. You could also put a tiny light inside that kills bacteria to make it extra clean.

This helmet will help anyone who rides a bike every day or even sometimes. No one likes a wet smelly helmet and right now most helmets in the market do not fix this problem. I know it myself because I ride a lot and sometimes I have to wear a wet helmet and it is really uncomfortable and also during night time there is no proper vision if the helmet is not clean cant even close the shield of it as then we cant see ahead due to tge lights of opposite vehicles so a clean helmet is non negotiable.

Making this helmet will mix simple machines electronics and some smart materials. It will be small light and not heavy. It can make riding more comfortable safe and clean. I think it will be useful for many people and it is fun to make something like this. I want to try it because it solves a real problem and it is not something you see in normal helmets. A smart self cleaning helmet can really change how people feel when they ride and keep them happy and safe.

InnoSipX : Innovating Purity...

Idea Post – InnoSipX: Smart Seal for Safer Beverages

Every year, thousands of people unknowingly consume beverages from contaminated tetra packs or cans. Harmful substances such as rat urine, dead insect remains, or traces of poison sprays often remain undetected on the surface, posing a serious risk when we insert the straw. According to the World Health Organization, nearly 200,000 people die annually from accidental poisoning, with around 84% of these deaths occurring in low- and middle-income countries like India. This is not just a statistic—it is a preventable tragedy.

My Solution: InnoSipX introduces Smart Seal, a protective peel-off cover for tetra pack openings. Made from the same safe and recyclable material as existing packaging (paper + aluminum + Bio-PE hydrophobic layer), the seal prevents contaminants from entering the straw hole. It is thin, lightweight, and designed with perforated edges for convenience. This ensures every sip is hygienic, while also giving beverage companies extra marketing space for graphics, promotions, or advertisements.

Why It Matters: Consumers gain safer, more trustworthy packaged drinks. Manufacturers benefit from a low-cost, scalable, and brand-enhancing solution. Ultimately, Smart Seal makes packaged beverages not only safer but smarter.

Market Potential: With the global Tetra Pak beverage market valued at ~$40 billion (2024) and growing at ~6% CAGR, this idea has the potential to be adopted widely by brands like Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Nestlé, and others.

With InnoSipX, we are revolutionizing beverage safety one sip at a time.

Regarding traffic congestion

One of the biggest problems humans face at this time is the idea of getting stuck in traffic. Traffic usually scares people as they think about how they might get struck by an accident or they might get stuck, and it may take them a lot of time to reach home. Traffic happens because of an uncontrollable number of vehicles travelling on the main road. This is where the idea of a new data structure came to me.

This data structure is basically about controlling each traffic signal with the help of data structures and check the frequency of vehicles at certain times, and then adjusting the signal accordingly, cooperating with other signals simultaneously. This system can help the police force as there would be less traffic congestion on the road, and people will be able to travel faster during traffic hours.

The benefits are huge, as people don't have to be scared of reaching any place late or that they are stuck somewhere. One more thing is that it can be modified in a better way by giving more time on roads that lead to a hospital, so that even a patient might not get stuck.

Yes, there might be challenges in implementing it, but after a period of time, when people start recognizing how impactful it it will be very useful for traffic congestion.

Every day, billions of people commute for countless reasons, using a wide variety of vehicles. On average, an estimated 1.6 billion vehicles travel on the roads each day. One major challenge commuters face is unpredictable weather—conditions so severe that visibility can drop to near zero. Heavy rain and dense fog generate two fundamental issues, the first being long queues of traffic that take hours to clear up, and for those who brave the elements - the inability to see what is directly ahead on the road and thus the moving vehicle becomes a coffin not just for the driver but also those caught on the road in those conditions at the wrong time.

Driving at night adds another layer of risk due to flash blindness caused by oncoming headlights. This problem is only worsened by modern, high-intensity laser-based beams, which can momentarily obscure entire vehicles or animals, sometimes leading to accidents in mere moments.

So, how do we address these issues? How can we make commuting safer in such conditions? As I pondered these questions by a quiet pond, the idea of a solution struck me—Byebyefog.

13713162484?profile=RESIZE_710x

Byebyefog builds on proven technologies and transforms the way we tackle low-visibility conditions. It is a helmet-mounted imaging system that allows users to see through fog, rain, and other visual obstructions along the direction of their primary field of view. Phased-array radars—commonly found in reverse parking sensors, proximity detectors, and police speed radar guns—have existed for decades, but their applications have largely been limited to simple, non-visual cues.

My solution takes this technology further: miniaturize the radar, integrate it into a helmet-mounted form factor, process the data with software, and convert it into a human-readable visual display. The reasoning is simple: long-wavelength radio waves penetrate fog and rain far more effectively than visible light, offering a reliable view of the road and obstacles ahead. At its core, Byebyefog addresses the biggest challenge in driving under adverse conditions—loss of visibility—by giving commuters a clear, real-time visual representation of their surroundings.

Currently small form factor radar modules and radar to visible converter modules exist, and they can be very cost efficient with smart planning in design and construction, a single Byebyefog imager module is similarly inexpensive while also solving the issues above stated.

In essence the benefit is for everyone. How? Well:

Commuters and Emergency Services own a device that helps them see through the unseeable and the cost is very minimal

Businesses have a great product to sell to the public that has massive potential for improvement and huge profit with its minimal cost of production and great capitalizable potential.

Road Safety Authorities spend less time and energy and money on clearing out traffic blockages and instead spend it on essentials like road maintenance and general upkeep.

Why this matters to me comes down to essentially solving a very plaguing issue in modern society. This device is a major competitor to more expensive solutions that are too niche for general use yet solve very fundamental issues in their own right.

Introduction:

Technology all over the world is advancing at an incredible rate, and with it, so is India. Digitalisation in banking, e-commerce, healthcare, government services, and the extensive application of Artificial Intelligence, is something we are well aware of. Alongside this rapid growth, cybersecurity has rightly become a national priority, something so crucial and indispensable. India has made commendable strides through laws like the DPDP Act (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023), the National Cybersecurity Policy, and the initiative of CERT-In. However, critical gaps still exist, and more specifically, in indigenous product development, leaving India dependent on technology produced by foreign countries.

The Issue:

India relies heavily on imported cybersecurity products whether it’s antivirus software, firewalls, cloud security services, encryption devices, or hardware security chips. Speaking of firewalls in particular, being the first line of defense, they are absolutely essential. Not only is it responsible for checking unauthorised access, it plays its role in controlling traffic flow, blocking cyber threats, and safeguarding sensitive data. India depends on foreign companies for firewalls, and these products are expensive due to the difference in currency value. They are not optimised for local needs, such as in compliance of the DPDP Act, local languages, or bandwidth realities. In fact, it may pose risks to National Security, leaving many vulnerabilities and damaging digital sovereignty.

The lack of indigenous products and their development is due to many reasons:

  • High R&D cost
  • Hardware Dependency
  • Market Perception
  • Lack of centralised incubation systems for digital security (contrary to Israel)

As for why it is unsafe to use foreign firewalls, and why this needs to be addressed:

  • Backdoor/Espionage risks
  • Geopolitical Dependence
  • Supply Chain Attacks
  • Risky Critical Infrastructure, such as government servers

The Solution:

The first step to developing and accelerating India’s growth in Cybersecurity, especially in something as essential as firewalls, is to pique interest. For example, conducting hackathons and challenges on designing indigenous firewalls, similar to India’s UPI and chip design push. SME incentives, cybersecurity incubators, and university partnerships are also a good start. Starting off with building locally created open-source firewall platforms, such as the already existing OPNsense, or designing lightweight cloud-managed firewalls for use at the SME/startup level, and producing relevant crucial hardware, could bring quite the change. This will also help the job market, generate employment, and leverage untapped potential. As a citizen of India, the nation's growth and the faith that is put into something as crucial as security, should always be a priority. Along with it, encouraging the use of Indian products and services, and striving to improve, support, and placing trust in our own people and development, will always be of utmost importance, for any kind of growth and technological revolutionisation.

Personal safety is not just a women’s issue, it is something that affects everyone. Late night commuters, delivery workers, travelers, students anyone can feel unsafe. Most safety apps today are either focused on one gender or depend on the user to manually trigger an alert, which doesn’t help much if someone is in shock or unable to act. Rakshak is designed to change that by creating a truly inclusive and intelligent safety network.

Rakshak uses adaptive monitoring powered by AI. Instead of rigid check ins, the app learns your usual patterns like commute times, routes, and walking speed to adjust its alerts. If you miss a check in, it quietly gives you warnings before involving others. After three missed confirmations, it shares your live location with your chosen contacts. By the fifth missed check in, it escalates with automated calls to your loved ones or local authorities.

Some key features that make Rakshak different:

• Context awareness: detects sudden movements or suspicious sounds on your phone to trigger early warnings while keeping your data private

• Smart route prediction: guides you toward well lit and busier areas if you stray from your usual path

• Voice codes: a simple phrase can cancel an alert or send an SOS without even unlocking your phone

• Inclusive by design: meant for anyone who could feel vulnerable, not limited to one gender

This idea matters to me because I have seen people of all genders feel unsafe just walking home or traveling. Safety should not depend on luck or on tools built for only some of us. Rakshak is meant to be a reliable companion for everyone.
