13715116086?profile=RESIZE_710xPlastic pollution is the biggest environmental threat today. We may be able to see bottles and bags floating at the surface, but the real danger is in the microplastics, those tiny pieces, that contaminate rivers, lakes, and oceans. Microplastics are absorbed into the food chain, they poison aquatic life, and enter human bodies via drinking water and seafood. Now, for detecting microplastics, we require laboratory equipment, which is time- and expense-intensive and not accessible to local communities.

The idea is to develop an affordable, portable sensor platform capable of detecting and measuring microplastics from water sources. With a built in controller and optical sensors which use laser scattering or fluorescence, the sensor can analyze water samples in real-time. Data will be captured and sent using IOT protocols to a central dashboard for monitoring trends over time. The sensor can be powered by a rechargeable battery or small solar panel.

This idea is beneficial to environmental researchers, NGOs, fishermen, and government agencies that need real-time data for pollution control and policymaking. The UI of the dashboard is to be simple, to make sure non technical users don't have a hard time using the sensor. I believe this problem is significant to me because health and livelihood in my community are directly affected by water qualityand microplastics are an unseen danger that few are able to accurately measure today. I firmly believe this would expand access to everyone who cares for environment and their health. My vision is to see such portable devices deployed widely, so that detecting microplastics becomes as routine as checking water pH or turbidity.

Snack vending machines

Problem:

Students living in computer hostels or on college campuses often study or work on projects late into the night. During these hours, hunger becomes a major distraction, yet grocery stores and canteens are usually closed. Students have no convenient way to access snacks or refreshments when they need them the most.

Solution:

Installing snack vending machines in hostels and at key points across the campus would solve this problem by providing 24/7 access to quick food and beverages. These machines could offer items like energy bars, chips, bottled drinks, instant noodles, and other affordable refreshments. Automated payment options (UPI, card, cash) would make the process smooth and reliable.

Market Gap:

In India, vending machines are mostly seen in airports, metro stations, or malls, but they are rarely found in colleges or hostels. This gap presents a unique opportunity to introduce vending machines into educational institutions, where the demand is high but no solution exists currently.

Benefits:

  • Students: Convenience, time savings, improved productivity, and better late-night study experiences.
  • Colleges: Enhanced student facilities, making the campus more attractive for future admissions.
  • Community: Creates a scalable business model that can expand into a vending machine franchise across multiple campuses.

Why It Matters:

As a student, I understand how frustrating it is to have no access to food during late-night study sessions. This idea is not just about snacks—it’s about improving student life and productivity. Over time, the model can expand to include essentials like stationery and hygiene products, making it a long-term, impactful solution.

MICROINTERNSHIPS

CONCEPT:

A platform where students and young professionals can offer and complete short-term, skill-based projects for each other or for local businesses. Instead of traditional long internships, these are bite-sized opportunities (5–20 hours) focused on practical learning and portfolio building.

HOW IT WORKS:

Project Posting – A student or small business posts a micro-task (e.g., design a logo, build a simple website, edit a video, tutor in math).

Skill Matching – The platform matches the project with students who have the required skill.

Exchange Model – Instead of payment, the student completing the project earns credits or gets help with a skill they want to learn. (Optionally, local businesses could pay small amounts to sustain the platform.)

Portfolio + Reviews – Completed projects are added to the student’s profile as experience, with feedback to build credibility.

PROBLEM IT SOLVES:

Many students struggle to get internships due to lack of experience.

Skills learned in class often don’t translate into real projects.

Businesses and peers need small tasks done but cannot afford professionals.

BENEFITS:

Experience – Students get practical exposure and real portfolio work.

Networking – Builds connections with peers and small enterprises.

Accessibility – Everyone can participate, regardless of background or income.

Employability – Employers value demonstrated projects and peer reviews.

Scalability – Can expand from campuses to freelancers and startups globally.

Key points:

✅ Eco-friendly – 100% biodegradable within 90–120 days.

✅ Smart Add-on – QR code on each pack that shows disposal instructions & recycling tips.

✅ Cost-Effective – Designed to be priced close to plastic alternatives so small businesses and canteens can use it.

✅ Scalable – Can be applied to water bottles, plates, and takeaway containers.

Impact:

Reduces single-use plastic waste in colleges, canteens, and restaurants.

Helps India meet sustainability goals (aligned with Swachh Bharat and ESG initiatives).

Educates consumers about proper waste management through the QR code system.

“TRUETAP-one tap to know the truth

Misinformation and fake news are spreading very easily on social media platforms like whatsapp, instagram and twitter. False alarms about politics, health, finance and also the current events can go viral within a few minutes of posting. The post reaches billions before they know if it’s true or false. This leads to panic and public confusion. But a browser extension makes this easier which can verify news content using fact checking API (application programming interfaces)

“TRUTH OVER TREND”
Most solutions in the current market requires on users to manually report the fake content. Content shared across platforms often bypasses the detection test. Users don’t have a simple system or tool to fact-check the information. Current fact-checking resources are mostly in English only, but the misinformation is often spread in their native languages.

The beneficiary are users because they get quick and reliable verification browser before sharing news. There will be a less spread of rumors and panic within the communities. This extension browser can get reports of suspicious content faster and improving their response times which reduces spreading of false misinformation. It improves trust and safety on their networks.

As a student who relies on social media for daily news, I’ve personally seen friends and family forward false claims unknowingly. A single fake post can create fear or influence opinions unfairly. I want to empower everyday users- especially non-technical people-to verify content instantly.

“FACTS FIRST, ALWAYS”

CloudEats- Food without boundaries.

🌐 What is a Cloud Kitchen?A cloud kitchen (also called ghost kitchen, virtual kitchen, or dark kitchen) is a food business that prepares meals only for delivery. Unlike restaurants, it doesn’t need dining space, waiters, or high rent. Orders are placed online through Swiggy, Zomato, Uber Eats, DoorDash or your own app/website.⸻🔑 How it Works 1. Kitchen Setup – Rent a small kitchen space or share an existing one. 2. Menu Development – Focus on 1–2 cuisines (e.g., biryani, pizza, healthy bowls). 3. Online Presence – List your kitchen on delivery apps or create your own ordering platform. 4. Order & Delivery – Customers order online → food is prepared → delivery partners handle logistics. 5. Feedback & Scaling – Use customer reviews and data to improve menu, pricing, and marketing.⸻💡 Why It’s a Great Startup Idea • Low investment – No need for a fancy restaurant space, interior design, or service staff. • High scalability – Easy to expand by opening multiple small kitchens in different areas. • Flexibility – You can experiment with different cuisines, brands, and menus. • Data-driven – Delivery apps provide insights on which dishes sell best.⸻📊 Business Models 1. Single Brand Kitchen – One cuisine, one brand (e.g., only burgers). 2. Multi-brand Kitchen – Several virtual brands under one kitchen (e.g., biryani, desserts, sandwiches). 3. Franchise Model – You create a successful brand, then franchise it to other kitchens. 4. Shared Kitchen Space – Provide infrastructure for multiple small food businesses to operate.⸻💰 Investment & Cost Structure • Kitchen rental: Small space in a commercial area or industrial kitchen hub. • Equipment: Stoves, ovens, refrigerators, utensils, packaging. • Staff: 2–5 chefs and helpers depending on scale. • Tech: Website/app (optional if only using Zomato/Swiggy). • Marketing: Online ads, social media, influencer tie-ups.💸 Estimated starting cost: ₹3–10 lakhs in India (depending on scale & location).⸻📈 Growth Opportunities • Launch multiple brands from one kitchen (e.g., Indian + Chinese + Desserts). • Partner with health/wellness brands for diet-based meal subscriptions. • Use AI/automation to predict demand and reduce waste. • Expand into Tier-2 cities where food delivery is growing fast.⸻🚨 Challenges • High competition on delivery apps. • Dependence on aggregator platforms (they charge commissions). • Need for strong food quality and timely delivery.⸻👉 Example:Imagine starting “Biryani Box”, a cloud kitchen brand. • Focus only on biryanis & kebabs. • Operate from a 300 sq. ft. kitchen. • Partner with Swiggy & Zomato. • Later, expand into “Biryani Box Express” in multiple cities.

Problem: Late detections are common for many cancers since the known genetic markers are less in number and their testing is the highest on the cost grid.

~~

Solution

I want to build an India-centric genetic marker library with the help of CRISPR technology.

First, I intend to collect and analyze data from cancer studies made in India and globally. From this we can identify the most frequently and clinically important mutations in cancers that are common in India.

Using this we prioritize 20-30 key markers for a pilot panel.

For the interesting part: I introduce CRISPR-Cas12 with isothermal amplification to detect these markers faster and more effectively.

Isothermal amplification is another way of PCR where the heat is constant and not transferable between hot and cold. This means we don't need any expensive machines. CRISPR-Cas12 works with a guide RNA to look for a particular mutation/marker.

Detection is read on a simple paper strip making it budget-friendly and portable.

I want to start with a few markers to validate the product and then scale it.

Scalability for this idea is very high as there can be good collaborations with hospitals, rural clinics, and research labs.

I'm happy to say that this could create a national cancer marker reference for precision medicine.

In the current learning environment, the biggest challenge for students isn’t a lack of knowledge or ability —it’s a lack of consistency. They procrastinate, skip daily study, and rush before exams. This creates a cycle of stress, poor retention, and lower academic performance.

Current "solutions" like calendars and reminders only notify you; they don't hold you accountable. Generic productivity apps are often too complex and lack design tailored to the unique needs of students. And while motivational videos can provide a temporary boost, they don't build the daily discipline needed to form lasting habits.

The result? Students still struggle to maintain a consistent study routine.

Introducing Study Streak

Study Streak is a gamified accountability platform built specifically for students. We turn procrastination into productivity by giving students real skin in the game.

Here's how it works:

  • Stake Your Goal: Students begin by staking points or a small amount of money when setting a study goal.

  • Log Your Progress: They log their progress daily to maintain a streak.

  • Earn Rewards: When they complete their streak, they are rewarded with recognition, virtual badges, and exclusive discounts on books and courses.

  • Accountability: If a student fails to complete their streak, their stake goes into a community reward pool, which is then distributed among the most consistent learners.

This model creates a powerful, intrinsic motivation. It’s more than just a reminder; it's a commitment. By leveraging the principles of gamification and accountability, Study Streak empowers students to build sustainable study habits, one day at a time. We're not just helping students study—we're helping them succeed.

BioVolt – Turning Waste into Watts

BioVolt – Waste to Watts
BioVolt is an innovative product developed on the basis of Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) technology, utilizing the intrinsic ability of microbes to produce electricity while treating wastewater. In an MFC, microbes are used as minute biocatalysts that secrete enzymes to decompose complex organic matter in wastewater. Key enzymes are the dehydrogenases that oxidize organic molecules and donate electrons, the oxidoreductases that mediate electron transfer from substrates to electrodes, and the hydrolases like cellulases, amylases, and proteases that break polymers into simpler molecules to be metabolized by microorganisms. Some microbes such as Geobacter and Shewanella also synthesize cytochromes that directly donate electrons to the electrode.
This enzymatic reaction causes the production of electricity and, at the same time, decreases the contaminants in the water. The treated effluent also has lower Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), which essentially makes it a much cleaner effluent. The water can then be utilized again for irrigation, in industry, or discharged safely, converting waste to a usable resource.
BioVolt is not only environmentally friendly but also commercially effective. It gives industries a twofold benefit: saving on wastewater treatment and producing renewable energy. Industrial effluent treatment, off-grid power for rural areas, and sensor operation in remote locations are among the uses.
To keep production costs low, BioVolt sidesteps pricey materials and pure cultures. Rather, it employs mixed microbial consortia that occur naturally in wastewater, which are self-reliant and resilient. Platinum electrodes are substituted with cheaper alternatives such as graphite, carbon cloth, or biochar. Sewage, agricultural residues, and food waste are used as cheap substrates, providing for continuous operation. The system is made scalable through a modular and stackable structure, ranging from small educational prototypes to large industrial units.
Through a blend of microbial enzymes, low-cost design, and commercial effectiveness, BioVolt converts wastewater from a problem into a solution—providing clean water, renewable power, and sustainable development

Group Expense Tracker App

Personal Anecdote

Last semester, I went on a weekend trip with five friends. We shared food, travel, and stay expenses, but by the end, none of us remembered exactly who had paid what. Some people overpaid, others forgot to contribute, and when we tried to settle, the calculations got messy. What should have been a fun trip ended with awkward conversations about money.

The Problem

This isn’t just about trips—living with roommates or hanging out with friends always involves shared expenses like groceries, rent, or cab rides. The real problem is keeping track of “who owes whom” without conflicts. Relying on memory, group chats, or manual calculations creates confusion, unfairness, and sometimes even tension among friends.

The Solution: Group Expense Tracker App

A simple, user-friendly app where members log shared expenses. The app automatically calculates balances and suggests the simplest, fairest way to settle, making money management smooth and transparent.

Key Features

  • Shared Expense Logging – Add bills in seconds (e.g., “Dinner ₹600 split 3 ways”).
  • Auto-Balancing – Instantly shows who owes whom.
  • Smart Settlements – Suggests minimum transactions to settle everything.
  • Reminders – Friendly nudges about pending payments.
  • Multi-Group Support – Separate groups for roommates, trips, or clubs.

Benefits

  • Removes awkwardness of asking friends to pay back.
  • Provides full transparency—everyone sees the same data.
  • Saves time and avoids calculation errors.
  • Encourages fairness, reducing conflicts.
  • Makes group living, trips, and events stress-free.

How AI Can Make It Smarter

  • Expense Insights – Analyze where most group money goes (e.g., “70% on food”).
  • Fairness Alerts – Detects if one person consistently pays more and notifies the group.
  • Smart Predictions – Suggests recurring expenses (like monthly rent, internet).
  • Optimized Settlements – Uses algorithms to minimize the number of payments needed.

Gaps in Current Solutions

  • Apps like Splitwise are powerful but too complex for casual student/friend use.
  • Most don’t integrate with local payment systems like UPI, forcing manual transfers.
  • They often focus on short-term trips, not long-term roommate living.
  • Very few use AI for personalization or fairness tracking.
  • Lack of gamification or engagement tools, which makes people delay settling.

Who Benefits

  • Roommates – Easily split monthly rent, groceries, and utilities.
  • Friend Groups – Trips, dinners, and events are handled without fights.
  • Students & Young Professionals – Learn financial discipline in shared living.
  • Clubs & Communities – Manage pooled funds transparently and fairly.
  • Local Payment Ecosystem – With UPI integration, settlements become one-click.

Why This Problem Matters to Me

As a student, I often split costs with friends. Sometimes small amounts pile up, and people forget. Other times, I feel uncomfortable reminding them to pay me back. A tool that makes settlements automatic, transparent, and fair would reduce stress, prevent conflicts, and help me—and many others—manage shared living better.

Technical Implementation

  • Cloud-based Backend – To sync expenses across devices instantly.
  • AI Engine – For insights, fairness checks, and predictive suggestions.
  • UPI/Wallet Integration – Direct settlement through local payment gateways.
  • Data Security – End-to-end encryption for financial safety.
  • Lightweight UI – Minimal, easy-to-use interface designed for students and young professionals.

Conclusion

Managing shared expenses shouldn’t be a source of stress or awkwardness. This app makes cost-splitting simple, fair, and transparent, while AI-powered insights and optimized settlements ensure everyone pays their fair share with minimal effort. With UPI integration and support for both daily roommate living and one-time trips, it fills the gaps left by existing tools. By saving time, avoiding uncomfortable reminders, and encouraging financial discipline, it not only makes life easier but also helps strengthen trust and friendships—a must-have tool for anyone sharing expenses in today’s world.

Waiting in queues—at cafeterias, government offices, hospitals, or even college admin counters—is one of the most frustrating everyday inefficiencies. Current “token” systems either require standing in line, waiting nearby, or relying on loudspeaker announcements that are easy to miss.

The Solution: QueueSlip is a lightweight queue management app + printer-integrated system that issues you a digital slip when you arrive. Instead of physically standing in line, you can sit anywhere nearby. The app gives real-time updates:

  • Shows your position in queue (“You’re 8th in line”).
  • Sends a gentle notification when you’re next, so you don’t miss your turn.
  • For walk-in users without smartphones, a printed slip has a QR code they can scan later to track progress.

What makes it different:

  • It’s not a bulky enterprise “queue system” with giant screens—just a small plug-in device + printer connected to an app.
  • Works in small-scale settings like a college cafeteria, campus admin block, or local clinic—places usually ignored by existing complex solutions.
  • Low cost, easy to implement, and highly user-friendly.

Who benefits:

  • Students: No more wasting break time standing in canteen queues.
  • Hospitals & clinics: Patients can rest instead of crowding waiting areas.
  • Small businesses: Smoother operations without chaos.

  1. Why it matters: Time wasted in small, daily queues adds up massively. QueueSlip transforms waiting into usable free time, without needing expensive infrastructure. It’s a simple, practical upgrade that people would actually adopt.

EDIBLE PACKAGING

Startup Idea: Edible Packaging from Agricultural Waste

Single-use plastic packaging remains one of the world’s most damaging pollutants, especially in food delivery and retail. While biodegradable and paper-based options exist, they still require months to decompose or rely on industrial recycling systems—leaving a clear gap for a more sustainable, practical solution.

My idea is to create edible, food-safe packaging derived from agricultural waste such as rice husks, sugarcane bagasse, or banana peels. These materials can be transformed into cups, wrappers, and containers that are sturdy enough to hold food yet fully compostable or even edible. Imagine ice cream served in a crunchy cookie-like bowl or sandwiches wrapped in rice-husk sheets. Instead of discarding waste, consumers either eat it or return it harmlessly to the environment.

This approach benefits multiple groups: restaurants and food delivery companies gain an eco-friendly branding advantage; farmers earn from agricultural byproducts that usually go unused; consumers enjoy guilt-free convenience; and communities at large face less plastic pollution. Unlike existing “green” packaging, this solution completely eliminates the recycling burden.

The issue matters to me because I often notice how much plastic waste accumulates from just one meal delivery. Current alternatives feel like half-measures. With edible packaging, we close the loop—waste is not just reduced but repurposed into value.

Technically, the concept relies on extracting biopolymers from plant residues, molding them into packaging, and ensuring food safety standards. This fusion of sustainability and innovation offers a practical, unique path to tackling one of the world’s most persistent environmental challenges.

The Real-Time Traffic Congestion Map is a system that helps people see which roads or gates within a campus or small area are crowded at any given moment. Instead of relying on guesswork, the system collects live data — either from simple sensors (like cameras, IR counters, or Bluetooth beacons) installed at key points, or from voluntary anonymous location data shared by users’ phones — and sends it to a central server. This data is processed to estimate vehicle or pedestrian density and then displayed on a color-coded map (green for free, yellow for moderate, red for congested) in a mobile app or web portal. Students, staff, or visitors can check the map before travelling inside the campus to choose less busy routes or plan their timing. The project not only improves movement efficiency but also gives practice in combining data collection, cloud storage, and real-time visualization.

-------->Uses:
Route planning:
Students, staff and visitors can instantly see which gates or internal roads are busy and pick less crowded ones.
Time savings:
Reduces time lost waiting in queues at parking or gates.
Safety:
Emergency vehicles (ambulance, fire truck) can see the least congested path in real time.
Administration:
Campus authorities get live data to adjust traffic police, open extra gates, or reschedule deliveries.
Data analytics:
Long-term data reveals peak times and patterns to improve infrastructure planning

---------->Implementation:
Data Collection:
-->Sensors: Cameras, IR counters, or Bluetooth beacons are installed at key points to collect data on vehicles or pedestrians.
-->Anonymous Location Data: Users can opt to share their anonymous location data from their phones
Data Transmission:
-->The collected live data is sent to a central server for processing.
-->Statistical techniques and machine learning are used to analyze the data and estimate vehicle or pedestrian density
Processing:
-->Server code calculates vehicle count, average speed, or density at each location.
-->Classify congestion levels (green/yellow/red) based on thresholds.
Visualization:
-->Build a web dashboard or mobile app that plots the campus map with colored segments for each road/gate.
->Green: Free-flowing traffic.
->Yellow: Moderate congestion.
->Red: Heavy congestion or traffic jams
-->Auto-refresh every 30 seconds or 1 minute for “real time” effect.
Prototype Demo:
For a project demo, use toy cars on a model road and IR sensors or a simulated data feed to show the live map changing colors.

------->Benefits:
Improved Efficiency:
Users can select less busy routes, reducing travel time within the campus or area.
Informed Planning:
Provides real-time information to help individuals plan their travel to and within the campus.
Enhanced Experience:
Reduces frustration by minimizing time spent in traffic.
Practical Application:
Offers a practical example of data collection, cloud storage, and real-time data visualization technologies

--------->Conclusion:
The Real-Time Traffic Congestion Map improves movement inside the campus by providing live, color-coded information on road and gate conditions. By combining simple sensors or anonymous mobile data with a cloud-based dashboard, it enables students and administrators to plan routes efficiently, reduce delays and make better infrastructure decisions.

The construction industry contributes nearly 40% of global carbon emissions , largely due to its reliance on cement , steel and other energy intensive materials. While these materials ensure durability, their heavy environmental impact makes it urgent to find better solutions. At present, most construction planning tools focus mainly on structural safety and cost, while sustainability is often overlooked or treated as an afterthought. This creates a gap between classroom knowledge of green alternatives and their practical application in real projects.

SmartBuild Optimizer is a proposed platform that applies mathematics and computation to make construction more sustainable and cost-effective. It uses optimization techniques such as Linear Programming, Integer Programming, and Multi-Objective Optimization to recommend the best material combinations. These solutions would balance three key aspects: structural safety, cost, and environmental impact.

The system would rely on a database of both conventional and eco-friendly materials, including properties like strength, durability, cost, and carbon footprint. For example, the tool could suggest replacing part of the cement with fly ash, or using bamboo composites in non-structural elements, ensuring that sustainability becomes a practical option rather than a compromise.

The benefits are broad. Students gain hands-on experience applying optimization models to real-world challenges, moving beyond theory. Builders and companies save costs and reduce emissions by adopting optimized solutions. Communities gain access to safer, more affordable, and greener housing. Most importantly, the environment benefits from reduced reliance on resource-heavy materials and lower carbon emissions.
