Campus Idea Journeys

Every big startup once began as a small idea — often in a classroom, hostel room, or coffee shop. In this section, we feature inspiring stories of student founders who dared to take the first step. From their humble beginnings to the challenges they faced and the milestones they achieved, these journeys will show you what’s possible when ideas meet action.

Current Stage: Prototype and Pilot Testing

Some of the best startup ideas are born out of late-night conversations and that’s exactly how Harvested Robotics came to life. At Mahindra University, two students, Rahul Arepaka and George Matthew, would often sit together and discuss real-world problems that needed solving. One problem that caught their attention was the backbreaking task of manual weeding in agriculture. They asked themselves: What if we could make this process tech-driven, efficient, and better for the environment? That question became the seed for Harvested Robotics.

The team officially began working on their idea in 2023. Their first step was to set up a prototype in the college incubator, experimenting with the combination of AI, vision systems, and laser technology to detect and remove weeds automatically. This was no small task but their passion to solve a real agricultural challenge kept them going.

Today, Harvested Robotics is in the prototype and pilot testing stage. They are actively refining their AI-powered laser weeding system and running tests to make it work seamlessly on farms. The vision? To give farmers a sustainable, chemical-free way to control weeds while saving time, labor, and money.

The journey hasn’t been easy. One of their toughest challenges was building a laser system that was both efficient and affordable. They tackled this by leveraging existing technologies, optimizing their design again and again, and learning from each test run. “It was a lot of trial and error,” the founders say, “but each failure taught us something new.”

What kept them motivated through all the tough times was the dream of transforming agriculture for millions of farmers and reducing the use of chemical herbicides, which harm soil health. This purpose gave them the energy to keep pushing forward, even when things got hard.

Their most memorable milestone came when they secured their first funding from Mahindra University to build prototypes. That early support gave them the confidence to dream bigger. Soon after, they raised Rs. 5 crore from Arali Ventures and Anand Mahindra, which took their project to the next level. Representing India at FIRA USA, a global agri-tech event, was another proud moment that validated their work on an international stage.

Being student entrepreneurs has shaped their journey in a unique way. With fewer preconceived notions, they were free to think outside the box, experiment without fear, and move fast. Support from mentors, peers, and the university’s incubator played a huge role in their success. “We had guidance whenever we needed it - both for technology and business strategy. That made a huge difference,” they share.

Looking ahead, the founders see a bright future for Harvested Robotics. In the next year, they plan to test their system extensively on real farms, scale up production, and expand their technology to work for different crops and farming conditions.

Their message for students who are sitting on an idea but are scared to take the first step is simple: Stay persistent. “It’s okay to fail, to try, and to learn. What matters is that you don’t stop.”

For students looking for inspiration, Harvested Robotics is proof that even from a dorm room, you can build something that has the power to impact millions.

Current Stage: Early Customer Discovery & Product Development

Praneeth was still pursuing his MBA at SIBM Pune when the idea for StayBind first struck him. Like many students, he was juggling coursework, projects, and side hustles — but one of those hustles opened his eyes to a big opportunity.

While managing Airbnb properties for a client in Pune, Praneeth personally interacted with over 5,000 guests. He saw what went wrong when check-ins weren’t smooth, when communication lagged, or when housekeeping missed a step. He also noticed how stressed property owners were trying to manage bookings, coordinate staff, and keep guests happy — often with little help from technology.

Instead of just seeing problems, Praneeth saw a possibility. What if there was a platform that could take away most of these headaches and make property management simple, automated, and scalable? That’s how StayBind was born — not in a corporate boardroom, but in the middle of his student life.

In March 2024, he started talking to more property owners, brokers, and co-hosts to understand their pain points better. He mapped the entire guest journey, from discovery to checkout, and identified gaps where technology could make the biggest difference. By August, Praneeth incorporated StayBind and built a small MVP, which he tested on properties he personally managed.

The results spoke for themselves — StayBind helped generate over ₹1 Cr in revenue for clients, proving that the model worked in the real world. The early days weren’t easy, though. Getting integrations with booking platforms like Airbnb and Booking.com was a huge challenge. Praneeth solved it by manually building workflows first, treating it like a live experiment. This hands-on approach helped him understand what really mattered for owners and shaped the product roadmap.

What kept him going were the owners who trusted him and the guests who appreciated the improved experience. The positive feedback became his biggest motivation. Support from mentors like Arjun Panchal and access to the AIC Mahindra University Jumpstart Program gave him the guidance and structure he needed to take StayBind to the next level.

Being a student founder gave Praneeth a unique advantage — he had the freedom to experiment, pivot quickly, and learn fast without the fear of failing big. Balancing coursework and startup life taught him discipline and focus, skills that would prove crucial as StayBind grew.

Today, StayBind is focused on refining its features like automated guest communication, task tracking, and revenue dashboards. Praneeth’s vision is clear: within a year, StayBind will be the go-to property management platform for owners with five or more properties, automating 70–80% of their operations and helping them scale across multiple cities.

His message to other students:
“Start small and stay curious. Don’t wait for the perfect moment or perfect product. Talk to real users, validate your assumptions, and keep iterating. Student life is the safest time to experiment and fail fast — use it to build something meaningful.”

StayBind’s journey proves that student startups can solve real problems, generate real revenue, and create real impact — all while still in college.

JoinEazy: From Campus Idea to Pilot Launch

The Beginning

JoinEazy didn’t start as Joineazy. The founders first worked on an activity aggregator platform called Funkey. Over time, and after eight major pivots, they kept evolving based on what they learned. Each “aha” moment brought excitement — and sometimes doubt — but they kept going, searching for the idea that truly clicked.

In February 2025, they began laying the foundation for JoinEazy. Instead of rushing into development, they took a step back to validate their assumptions. Through deep user research, conversations with students, and honest feedback, they refined their idea until it solved a real problem.

The Challenges

Like most first-time founders, the JoinEazy team started out believing their first idea was a “million-dollar startup.” But reality quickly taught them that building a startup is not about forcing your assumptions into the world — it’s about listening to users and pivoting again and again until you find a real, validated problem worth solving.

Team changes were another major hurdle. At one point, a co-founder had to step away, leaving the team to rebuild, clear code legacy issues, and realign on their vision. Despite these setbacks, they refused to give up — each challenge became a reason to work harder.

The Pilot Stage

Fast forward to today — JoinEazy is running a semester-long pilot at Mahindra University. This is a crucial step for the team to observe early user behavior, validate their core assumptions, and refine the platform before scaling further.

The pilot is not just a test — it’s a chance to create a real-world impact on campus, gather meaningful feedback, and see what drives genuine adoption among students.

The Support System

JoinEazy credits a large part of their progress to the incredible support system around them — mentors at AIC- Mahindra and professors at Mahindra University. The university’s openness made experimentation easier and allowed them to validate ideas quickly.

Their families also played a huge role, believing in their vision, encouraging them to network, and giving them the confidence to take risks.

The Road Ahead

By this time next year, the team envisions JoinEazy as a fully validated platform with a successful pilot completed and collaborations established across multiple universities. Their goal is to onboard 20,000–30,000 students within the next year, building a thriving ecosystem where students can collaborate, connect, and engage in meaningful activities.

Why This Matters

JoinEazy’s story proves that entrepreneurship is not about having a single genius idea — it’s about staying curious, listening to users, and never giving up when challenges arise. Their journey shows students that building something meaningful from a dorm room is not just possible — it’s powerful.
