Quickmed- an automated medicine vending machine

In today’s fast-moving lifestyle, access to basic medicines often becomes a challenge, especially during late hours or in emergency situations. Pharmacies may remain closed, or the nearest medical store might be too far to reach. This can cause unnecessary delays in treatment for minor health issues such as fever, headache, cold, sprains or small injuries.

QuickMed is a unique and smart vending machine designed to dispense basic OTC medicines and essential healthcare products like paracetamol, antiseptic creams, band-aids,volinis,crepe bangades, hand sanitizers, and masks. Installed in campuses, railway stations, hostels, and public places, the machine works through digital payment systems (UPI,credit/debit cards), ensuring 24/7 availability.

The system is connected to a central database that tracks stock levels and automatically notifies suppliers when refilling is needed. Medicines are organized in separate slots with QR/barcode scanning to prevent errors. Additionally, a small display provides dosage information and warnings to promote safe usage.

Who benefits:

  • commuters or travellers who need urgent first aid
  • students living in hostels or away from family(people who mainly benefit from this idea)
  • normal public during after hours as it is hard to find pharmacies which are open 24/7
  • this idea can also partner with nearby pharmacies or pharmacies which are realtively close.by doing this, their net sales will also see a rise which is a win win situation for both public and the vendors
  • can be life saving in some instances

Why it matters to me:

  • being a student who lives in hostel and mostly away from parents,i found this idea to be very beneficial as i come across alot of people around me sustaining minor injuries like ankle twists, sprains or any kind of sickness like cold, fever or cough
  • this vending machine can be very helpful in any of these cases as it can dispense tablets, volini and others kinds of first aids

Technical details:

  • central database that stores the stock information and regulates accordingly
  • digital payment systen such as UPI or debit/credit card
  • battery back to still keep running when theres a power outage

  • Quickmed is a useful and relevant idea that addresses a very important real life need. The concept is practical and well thought out. Especially with its focus on accessibility and 24/7 availability. With a bit more focus on product safety inside the vending machine and also on problems like upi fail or power cuts, etc. this will be a solid idea. Overall good job Varnav. Proud of you mama.
  • It might help to include multilingual audio or visual guidance for elderly users or those unfamiliar with medicine usage instructions.
  • The database and auto-refill system are strong features. You could further improve efficiency by integrating AI-based demand prediction to restock based on usage trends in specific locations.
  • Excellent initiative for public health accessibility! Partnering with local pharmacies is smart — maybe include a QR code for users to locate the nearest open pharmacy if a medicine isn’t available.
