We are what we eat
We know the importance of food, both in quantity (calories, macronutrients) and in quality (vitamins, minerals, ease of digestion etc).
Yet we are int he middle of a global food crisis, with over 1.3 billion tons of food wasted annually yet millions suffer not only from hunger and lack of food, but also malnutrition and other deficiencies. Existing apps and services either act as inventory management for food stocks or as calorie and macro tracker apps. This is where NutriSave can come in.
An intuitive mobile app would scan barcodes and receipts of groceries and keep track of expiry dates, creating a digital pantry of sorts, allowing the end user to have timely reminders of food nearing the expiration date.
For foodstuffs bought from marketplaces without barcodes (Ex:- local vendors for vegetables and fruits, butcher shops for meats), The app would take in other user inputs (weight of food, image of food etc) to maintain accuracy above the current list of macro tracking apps
But unlike other management apps, NutriSave would go further, taking in the data and analyzing the nutritional content of the food (data available publicly--- https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/ ) and give custom meals based on the foodstuffs available.
Ex:- If a family has a shelf filled with a healthy amount of carbs but less fibre and vitamin c, the app would suggest a simple stif fry recipe with the near expiring vegetables and a dash of lemon juice.
A.I. can be implemented effectively to manage the databasing and give regular updates alongside giving cost-effective, yet appetizing meal plans based on existing variations created in cuisines aroudn the world
