UnWire : Untangling cities, one pole at a time

The Problem

Indian cities are tangled in unsafe, unorganised electric and communication wires. These messy clusters cause frequent service disruptions, electrocution hazards, fire risks, harm to wildlife, and make cities look unplanned and chaotic.

Causes:
  • Multiple providers using the same poles without coordination
  • Failure to remove old and unused wires
  • Weak enforcement of safety and municipal regulations
  • Low-hanging wires that endanger people, workers, and animals

Why It Matters to Me

A few years ago, I was walking down a busy street when I saw something I'll never forget. A bird, tangled in a mess of wires, was struggling to free itself. Then, in a flash, it was gone, its life lost in a tragic, preventable accident.
That incident made me realise that unorganised wiring isn't just an eyesore; it's a profound risk to lives, safety, and the environment. Since then, I've wanted to build a systematic and sustainable solution.

Our Startup

UnWire works with municipalities, ISPs, telecom providers, and electricity boards to deliver end-to-end solutions — from safe installation to smart monitoring and recycling. By combining technology with sustainability, we create a cleaner, safer, and more accountable urban future.

Our Solutions

                     1. Modular Cable Management Systems

    • We use industry-standard cable trays, conduits, and labelled bundling systems to securely elevate, separate, and organise wires for every utility.
    • Colour coding and owner-specific tags are applied to each wire, enabling faster identification and reducing mistakes during maintenance or upgrades.

      2. Active Monitoring and Accountability
    • IoT-enabled monitoring devices detect loose, damaged, or redundant wires.
    • Regular audits in partnership with municipal bodies to ensure old and unauthorised connections are systematically removed.

      3. Wire Recovery and Recycling Program
  • Structured processes to collect and recycle unused or illegal wires, reducing clutter while contributing to a circular economy.

  • Your idea is really helpful to make crowded cities and towns more safe, because those places have poles that have wires dangerously entangled. But also, India is a very large country. I think you consider the resources to start with this approach and also to maintain it.
  • This is a highly impactful and well-articulated idea! I love how it addresses not only safety and aesthetics but also environmental sustainability. The combination of modular cable management, IoT monitoring, and recycling shows a comprehensive approach to a problem that affects cities, wildlife, and residents alike. Your personal story about the bird adds a powerful, human touch that underscores why this issue matters. UnWire seems poised to make Indian cities safer, cleaner, and more organised.
  • I love your idea and your thought process on how simple corrections like this in out lives can greatly affect us. I also wanted your take on the ongoing operations of cutting wifi cables around in the city. Can unwire prevent shortage of wifi if wires have to be cut ?
  • A revolutionary idea. One that will make the streets of India look beautiful again.
  • UnWire tackles one of the most overlooked urban problems—tangled and unsafe wiring. By combining organisation, monitoring, and recycling, it makes cities safer and cleaner. A thoughtful idea born from real experience.
