“TRUETAP-one tap to know the truth

“TRUETAP-one tap to know the truth

Misinformation and fake news are spreading very easily on social media platforms like whatsapp, instagram and twitter. False alarms about politics, health, finance and also the current events can go viral within a few minutes of posting. The post reaches billions before they know if it’s true or false. This leads to panic and public confusion. But a browser extension makes this easier which can verify news content using fact checking API (application programming interfaces)

“TRUTH OVER TREND”
Most solutions in the current market requires on users to manually report the fake content. Content shared across platforms often bypasses the detection test. Users don’t have a simple system or tool to fact-check the information. Current fact-checking resources are mostly in English only, but the misinformation is often spread in their native languages.

The beneficiary are users because they get quick and reliable verification browser before sharing news. There will be a less spread of rumors and panic within the communities. This extension browser can get reports of suspicious content faster and improving their response times which reduces spreading of false misinformation. It improves trust and safety on their networks.

As a student who relies on social media for daily news, I’ve personally seen friends and family forward false claims unknowingly. A single fake post can create fear or influence opinions unfairly. I want to empower everyday users- especially non-technical people-to verify content instantly.

  • This is a very thoughtful and practical idea! I like how it clearly identifies the problem of misinformation spreading quickly, especially in local languages, and proposes a solution that empowers users directly. The focus on making fact-checking simple and accessible for everyone, not just tech-savvy people, is excellent. Highlighting your personal experience as a student adds authenticity and makes the problem relatable.

  • This is such a powerful idea! A simple fact-checking browser extension will really help people avoid falling for fake news .How will the extension handle memes, images, or videos that spread fake news, not just text? Excited to see if this could also work on WhatsApp forwards—that’s where the biggest problem lies.

  • This is such a powerful concept! Fake news spreads faster than facts, and your browser extension gives users an easy way to verify information before sharing. I like how you’ve also considered multiple languages, which makes it more inclusive and useful.
  • Quick verification before sharing will definitely reduce misinformation at the source itself.
  • Since you mention local languages, how will you handle translations or region-specific fact checkers? Overall initiative is quite profound and contempary.

  • This is a really relevant solution! 👍 I like how “Truth Over Trend” focuses on instant verification instead of waiting for reports, and also considers multiple languages since misinformation spreads fastest that way. One thing to think about is how to make the extension super simple and lightweight so even non-technical users feel comfortable using it.
