Spot On: Parking made simple

Problem: In crowded cities, drivers spend 10–30 minutes on average searching for a parking spot. This wastes fuel, increases traffic congestion, and causes frustration. Current parking systems are limited to small private lots or malls and do not provide real-time, city-wide availability.

Market Gap: Most existing apps only display parking locations but fail to provide real-time availability updates, leaving drivers unsure if a spot is actually free when they arrive. Additionally, they are often limited to small areas, lack integration with both public and private parking spaces, and rarely offer direct communication with on-ground parking staff. This creates a major gap in trust, usability, and coverage.

Solution: A Smart Parking Finder App – Spot On that uses IoT sensors, AI predictions, and community-driven inputs to show real-time parking availability. Drivers can:

  • See nearby free spots on a live map.

  • Reserve/book spaces in advance.

  • Get AI-based predictions on best times/places to park.

  • Directly connect with local parking managers (security guards, attendants, lot owners) through in-app chat or call in case of confusion, disputes, or help needed.

Who Benefits:

  • Drivers: Save time, money, and stress with real-time parking + human support.

  • Parking Lot Owners: Higher occupancy, smoother operations, and customer trust.

  • Local Parking Managers: A platform to manage and communicate easily with users.

  • Communities: Less congestion, reduced pollution.

  • Cities: Smarter urban mobility and valuable data insights for planning.

Why It Matters to Me: Parking struggles are something I face personally and see daily in crowded markets and office areas. Solving this problem will not only make life easier for drivers but also reduce unnecessary traffic, lower pollution, and improve city living conditions. Adding a human touch by connecting drivers with local parking managers makes the system more reliable and trustworthy.

Business Model (Technical Details):

  • Basic app access is free for all drivers.

  • Premium features include spot reservations, guaranteed availability, and exclusive discounts.

  • Parking lot owners pay a subscription fee to digitize and list their lots.

  • Commission is earned on every booked/reserved spot.

  • Partnerships with local attendants ensure verified, managed parking.

  • Data insights can be sold to municipalities and businesses for planning.

Key Takeaways:

  • Parking is a universal urban pain point.

  • Current solutions lack real-time availability.

  • Spot On combines technology + local human support to create trust and efficiency.

  • It improves convenience for drivers, efficiency for lot owners, and sustainability for cities.

The product looks promising and can definitely make parking more convenient. However, I have a few concerns regarding the revenue model. Why would a user be charged online and then again upon entering the parking lot? That may discourage adoption. Additionally, in many regions (especially in India), people often prefer interacting with an attendant rather than relying solely on an app. Lastly, how would the app practically resolve congestion in peak hours (such as right before a movie or concert) when multiple cars are entering or exiting at once and others have to wait?
  • This is a really smart solution to a daily urban problem! I like how Spot On combines real-time tech with human support, making parking easier, more reliable, and less stressful for everyone

This is a smart and practical idea. It solves a real problem by combining real-time tech with human support, which makes it more trustworthy than other apps. The solution benefits both drivers and cities.
  • excellent idea tanishka !!
this app will very helpful for all tourists and tackles everyday problems faced by people and help reduce crime in an area
  • It is a very genuine and useful Idea Tanishka! The app tackles a very real and relatable urban pain point, but its success depends heavily on execution. There’s a risk of conflict with existing local parking mafias who informally control parking in many cities.. The business model also hinges on partnerships and guaranteed slots, which are hard to secure at scale. Tackling these problems would make the app even better than before.
  • Your project Spot On is really impressive—it tackles a daily problem with a smart mix of technology and human support, but the challenge might be getting real-time accuracy and convincing lot owners/attendants to adopt it.
  • Its a great idea as it really is difficult to find parking spaces specially in malls and crowded areas .This can be a good thing to look up and make arrangements for your car.
  • This tackles one of the biggest urban headaches in a really smart way. Real-time availability plus AI predictions make it far more reliable than existing parking apps. I like how you’ve added the human touch with direct connection to local attendants. That really builds trust and sets it apart from other solutions. The add Ons later you can have with it is like dynamic pricing, License plate recognition and seamless digital pay/UPI integration.

The idea is wonderful and thoughtful
but how do you guarantee the reservation of the parking spot. What if you have booked it but a person who is not using the app takes the spot?
