The Problem
Many of us want access to premium digital services — Netflix, Spotify, Coursera, productivity tools — but paying full price for each subscription is expensive. When people try sharing, it usually turns into a hassle: one person has to manage payments, chase friends every month, and risk late or missed contributions. The result? Stress, wasted money, and people dropping subscriptions altogether
The Gap
Current options are inconvenient or unfair:
- Pay for individual subscriptions (costly).
- Share accounts informally with friends (messy and unreliable).
What’s missing is a simple, secure, and affordable way to share subscriptions without the monthly payment headaches.
Our Solution
SplitWise (Shared Subscriptions Splitter)
SplitWise is a platform that connects people who want to share family or group subscription plans and automatically splits the cost. Users sign up, choose the service they want, and get matched with a group. Payments are collected securely, then the subscription is managed on their behalf. For early adopters, the MVP is simple: a Google Form for signups, WhatsApp groups for coordination, and UPI/PayPal for payments. As demand grows, this evolves into a full app that automates matching, reminders, and payments.
To build trust, we offer a guarantee: if a group member drops out mid-cycle, SplitWise steps in to cover the gap until another member joins, so no one loses access.
Who Benefits?
- Users (Students & Professionals): Affordable access to premium tools, without the hassle of chasing payments.
- Content Providers (Indirectly): More paying customers, fewer pirated accounts.
- Communities: Easier access to entertainment, education, and productivity tools at fair prices.
Why This Matters to Me
I’ve struggled with this myself—trying to split subscriptions with friends always turned messy. Someone would forget to pay, and one person got stuck covering the bill. It was frustrating and unfair. SplitWise is my way of fixing this problem for everyone who wants premium services without premium headaches.
The Plan
In the first six months, we’ll test with student groups and university communities — high demand, limited budgets, and easy word-of-mouth growth. We’ll manually match groups and handle payments while measuring reliability and interest. As we grow, we’ll launch a simple app to automate the process, supported by referral rewards (bring a friend, save more). Over time, we’ll expand city by city, targeting students, young professionals, and families. The long-term goal is to make subscription sharing normal and trusted—just like splitting a ride or a meal delivery.
