The Problem

In the modern era of filmmaking, students and casual cinephiles love studying iconic scenes, but breaking them down requires watching long movies, pausing and manual analyzing. To further complicate matters, film schools use heavy softwares like Final Cut which are expensive and complex for beginners.

The Solution: SceneSync

SceneSync is an AI-driven app that breaks down movie scenes for educational purposes- making cinema a learning tool for everyone.

All the user needs to do is pick a film - the app uses AI to auto-detect camera angles, lighting and editing techniques. After analysis it provides an in-depth explanation of how each element works, writing techniques the director used. It also provides a template with which the user can recreate the scene.

We haven’t arrived at the USP yet- if any user wants to recreate a film, or make a new one altogether, all they need to do is raise a post. Like-minded and willing people will reach out to them, thereby reducing the hassle for solo filmmakers.

List of Technologies Required to build SceneSync:

  • OpenCV, TensorFlow, Pytorch for Computer Vision and AI, aiding object and scene detection.
  • Neural Language Processing for explaining why a certain technique is used, and analysing screenplay.
  • Video Processing Infrastructure for Shot Boundary Detection algorithms.
  • React for frontend, Node.js for backend, MongoDB for database, AWS for cloud.

Current Solutions and their drawbacks:

  • Film schools and editing softwares: expensive and complicated
  • Online tutorials: not interactive or personalised.
  • Letterboxd and other platforms: limited for film reviews and feedback only.

Who benefits?

  • Film students and aspiring filmmakers
  • Casual cinephiles
  • Educational institutions, as SceneSync is a duolingo of sorts.

The motivation behind my idea was binge watching a movie I loved as a kid, and the urge to recreate a particular scene.

Let’s make filmmaking more accessible to the public, SceneSync has you covered!

  • Nice idea, how would you prevent copyright strikes?
    • possible collaborations with OTT platforms
  • This is a really cool idea! SceneSync makes film learning simple and fun, and the community feature of connecting creators is a strong USP. One suggestion would be to keep the first version focused maybe start with shot detection and scene explanations before expanding to full collaboration features. That way, users quickly see value, and the platform can grow step by step.
  • Very creative idea. SceneSync not only helps users learn from films but also connects them with collaborators. The mix of education and community makes it stand out and gives it real potential.
  • I believe filming is a very much practical subject, so I am all together not so sure if effective this method of thought for teaching will help. It will be crucial for you to make sure AI helps properly. And when you do, I'm sure we will have huge increase in terms of quality of movies
  • The Idea is very innovative and Amazing!!👏

But i find a tiny concern
Relying on copyrighted film content for scene analysis and recreation might raise significant legal and licensing challenges.
Apart from that a solid idea
    • I am considering partnership/ licensing with OTT platforms to counter the legal issues.
