The Problem
In the modern era of filmmaking, students and casual cinephiles love studying iconic scenes, but breaking them down requires watching long movies, pausing and manual analyzing. To further complicate matters, film schools use heavy softwares like Final Cut which are expensive and complex for beginners.
The Solution: SceneSync
SceneSync is an AI-driven app that breaks down movie scenes for educational purposes- making cinema a learning tool for everyone.
All the user needs to do is pick a film - the app uses AI to auto-detect camera angles, lighting and editing techniques. After analysis it provides an in-depth explanation of how each element works, writing techniques the director used. It also provides a template with which the user can recreate the scene.
We haven’t arrived at the USP yet- if any user wants to recreate a film, or make a new one altogether, all they need to do is raise a post. Like-minded and willing people will reach out to them, thereby reducing the hassle for solo filmmakers.
List of Technologies Required to build SceneSync:
- OpenCV, TensorFlow, Pytorch for Computer Vision and AI, aiding object and scene detection.
- Neural Language Processing for explaining why a certain technique is used, and analysing screenplay.
- Video Processing Infrastructure for Shot Boundary Detection algorithms.
- React for frontend, Node.js for backend, MongoDB for database, AWS for cloud.
Current Solutions and their drawbacks:
- Film schools and editing softwares: expensive and complicated
- Online tutorials: not interactive or personalised.
- Letterboxd and other platforms: limited for film reviews and feedback only.
Who benefits?
- Film students and aspiring filmmakers
- Casual cinephiles
- Educational institutions, as SceneSync is a duolingo of sorts.
The motivation behind my idea was binge watching a movie I loved as a kid, and the urge to recreate a particular scene.
Let’s make filmmaking more accessible to the public, SceneSync has you covered!
Comments
Practical for students and inspiring for hobbyists, it could genuinely change how people learn and remake scenes if the analysis and collaboration flow are simple and reliable.
