Project Proposal: Women's Safety Smart Jewelry

  • Title :  "SafeWear: Discreet Smart Jewelry for Women's Safety"
  •  Problem Statement

Women's safety is a serious concern all over the world. A lot of women experience harassment, stalking, or threats, particularly while traveling or commuting alone. Current solutions in the form of mobile safety applications, pepper sprays, or panic buttons in the phone are not ideal: they take time and physical access, which might not be available during real emergencies. The delay makes these devices less effective and exposes women to danger. What is needed is a "discreet, instant-access, and effective safety device" that can be used by women without arousing attention.

  • Proposed Solution

The concept is to create"Smart Safety Jewelry"—wearable devices like rings, pendants, or bracelets with concealed SOS features. A simple press or gesture activates the following functionalities:

  • Live GPS tracking: with emergency contacts and local authorities.
  • Audio/video recording:  for evidence gathering.
  • Haptic feedback (vibration):  to acknowledge alert activation.
  •  Optional: voice activation ("Help Me!") for hands-free emergency.

 Ride-sharing integration for travel safety.

  •  Justification

This approach is more "practical and convenient"than mobile applications since it does away with having to unlock a phone during anxious situations. Jewelry is subtle, ever-present, and acceptable to be worn. Through the integration of technology in clothing, women are made safe without the loss of convenience or style.

  • Data Structures / Technologies Used
  1. GPS & Cloud Servers → to store and send live location.
  2. Hash Tables→ for rapid storage and retrieval of emergency contacts.
  3. Graphs→ for associating user's location to the closest police station or help center.
  4. IoT with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) → to pair jewelry with smartphones.
  5. AI (optional) → for voice recognition ("Help Me" trigger).
  •  Expected Outcomes
  1.  Women have quicker, more consistent access to assistance in crises.
  2.  Families are reassured regarding the safety of loved ones.
  3. Faster notification to authorities decreases response times.
  4.  Social impact: gives women more self-confidence and autonomy in their daily lives.

  • The idea addresses a real and urgent problem — women’s safety during travel, commuting, or public spaces — so it has strong emotional and social appeal.
  • A commendable effort with strong potential for further research and development.
  • This could have a massive social impact. Beyond just protection, it gives women confidence and peace of mind.
  • Would love to see partnerships with jewelry brands or women’s organizations to make this mainstream, it has real potential to scale globally.
  • The focus on discreetness and instant activation shows empathy towards the user’s situation. It’s clear the solution prioritizes safety without causing panic or drawing attention.
  • The proposal effectively combines IoT, AI, and GPS tracking into a wearable form factor, showing a deep understanding of both technical feasibility and user comfort.
  • The idea of using graphs to map the user’s location to the nearest police station is great — but could be enhanced with real-time route optimization algorithm
  • Mentioning how you plan to prototype the jewelry (for example, using Arduino Nano + GPS + BLE modules) would make the proposal more complete and technically grounded.
  • A smart and practical solution that enhances women’s safety discreetly.
Innovative use of technology in everyday jewelry for quick emergency response.
  • Overall, an impressive and well-structured proposal with high potential for real-world impact.
