RoomRover

We’ve all felt that familiar wave of panic and distress during our minors or finals week. The library is a sea of people, every corner is buzzing with noise, and there’s simply nowhere to sit and focus. The most frustrating part is that we're all just guessing. We have no map, no guide—just a hope that if we walk far enough, we’ll get lucky. So, we become reluctant explorers on our own campus, wasting time we don't have trekking between buildings. We walk down endless corridors, peering into classroom after classroom, our hopes rising and falling with each door.

Room Rover is a mobile application which acts like a live guide to the university’s available spaces. Instead of starting that long, aimless walk, you just pull out your phone. On the screen, your campus map comes to life, lighting up with every single empty classroom and study spot around you. Crucially, you'll see not just that a room is empty, but that it’s free for the next two hours, so you know you can actually settle in. With a single tap, you can hold the space for your group. With a simple interface, a live map instantly shows students the real-time status of every room using a simple, color-coded system—green for available and red for occupied. To find the perfect spot, they can easily filter this view based on their specific needs, whether it's for a certain capacity, for a specific duration like "free for the next 2 hours," or for a room containing amenities like a whiteboard or projector. Once the ideal space is located, a single tap allows a student or their group to make an instant, temporary booking directly from their phone, securing the room and guaranteeing it's theirs to use without any conflict. The reality is that current 'solutions' don't work for students. Their only real choice is to wander the halls, hoping they get lucky. The official university systems are slow, complicated, and built for booking formal events weeks in advance by faculty and staff. Room Rover is different because it's built for now—for that moment a student just needs a quiet place to work.

Ultimately, this is for the student who's tired of wasting precious time and energy just looking for a place to work. Room Rover gives them back those lost minutes, removes the daily stress of the search, and makes it incredibly simple to pull a group together for a spontaneous study session. This relief creates a ripple effect: the university benefits from a happier student body and seeing its expensive buildings bustling with activity, all without needing new construction. But the real win is for the entire campus community. When collaboration becomes these effortless, quiet hallways can transform into active hubs for innovation, creating a more connected and dynamic environment where great ideas can happen anywhere. Ultimately, this problem is about more than just convenience because college is already stressful enough without the daily, draining search for a quiet place to work. It’s about giving students back their time and mental energy so they can focus on what they're actually here for: to learn and succeed.

The system's technical core is a backend server (built with Node.js or Python) that processes class schedules and manages bookings. This server powers a cross-platform mobile application (developed in React Native or Flutter) which provides the user-friendly interface for students. Within the app, an integrated mapping service like Map box or Google Maps renders the live, interactive map that visually pinpoints the real-time status of every room.
