RIDESHIELD-The ultimate motocover

Sun & Rain Canopy for Two-Wheelers

The Problem:-

In India, two-wheeler riders make up more than 70% of daily commuters. Unlike car drivers, they are exposed to harsh sun, sudden rains, and dusty winds while waiting at traffic signals or during slow traffic. This leads to:

Health issues (heat strokes, dehydration, skin problems).Discomfort and stress during travel.

Safety risks when riders try unsafe hacks like balancing umbrellas or rushing red lights to avoid getting wet.

Existing solutions like raincoats or ponchos are inconvenient, while big fixed sheds at signals are costly, hard to maintain, and not scalable across Indian cities.

The Gap in Current Market:-

Sepal (India, Shark Tank): Provides full motorcycle canopy but costs ~₹10,000, too expensive for many. Bulky and not stowable quickly.

Umbrella-type attachments (Amazon, Qaswa, Muren, etc.): Cheap but unsafe, unstable in wind, and block visibility.

Government infrastructure sheds: Expensive, space-hungry, not available at every signal.

Gap: No affordable, lightweight, foldable canopy that is safe, quick to deploy, and rider-friendly.

HOW MY IDEA SOLVES:-

Design a foldable bike-mounted canopy that can be deployed like an umbrella when the bike is stationary (e.g., at signals, in traffic jams) and stowed away before riding.

Key features:

  • Lightweight (≤ 4–6 kg), mounted on rear grab rail.
  • Telescopic scissor mechanism (manual pull-up & lock).
  • Waterproof + UV-protected fabric with vents for wind stability.
  • Reflective strips for visibility.
  • Quick-release system to fold and stow within seconds.

Cost target: ₹2,500–5,000 (affordable mass-market).

Who Benefits:-

Daily commuters on bikes/scooters: Protection from sun, rain, dust while waiting.

Families & delivery riders: Comfort for pillion riders, especially children and elderly.

Community & cities: Safer traffic behavior (riders won’t jump red lights to avoid weather), healthier and happier citizens.

Why This Matters to Me:-

Every day I see bikers waiting at red lights under scorching heat or heavy rains, getting drenched or exhausted, while cars wait comfortably. I believe two-wheeler riders deserve equal dignity and protection. This idea is close to me because it’s about fairness, comfort, and everyday safety for millions of Indians who rely on bikes.

 Technical Details :-

Frame: Aluminium alloy for lightness.

Canopy fabric: PU-coated polyester (waterproof, UV-resistant).

Mechanism: Telescopic scissor arms with locking joints.

Safety: Designed only for stationary use (interlock reminder to stow before riding).

  • I want to share this, actually I used to think that why wouldn't there be any protection for 2-wheeler travellers and finally you have shown with this idea.A single thing I want to share is slogan “Because every rider deserves a little shade of dignity.”
That single line captures comfort, equality, and pride — everything your product stands for.
  • What I feel is proper marketing is the best strategical way for any growing business. So what i suggest is to offer early versions to college students, courier riders, or medical staff who travel daily. Collect video testimonials. Their stories will speak louder than any marketing.
  • I am sure that this idea will be revolutionary idea and have huge potential to bring up.But a suggestion to improve would be to In your pitch, emphasize how your product reduces heat fatigue and sick days, helping delivery workers earn more. That’s powerful social impact — and potential for CSR tie-ups.
  • Woww,I am amazed with your idea and the way you targeted to solve such big problem with such a simple and cool way.Anyways make sure rear-view mirrors and lights stay fully visible, and design a sleek profile that doesn’t make the scooter look bulky. A good-looking prototype sells itself — people buy what they’re proud to be seen with.
  • This is such a thoughtful and innovative idea and i would be glad if this gets really implemented.Ofcourse any big idea has some clauses that need to be corrected and one of that would be to make installation simple enough that any roadside mechanic can attach or fix it. Maybe even give them a small installation incentive — that turns them into your grassroots brand ambassadors.
  • I am glad that you came up with this idea cause I love the way you think to solve a daily facing unnoticeable problem and coming up with a innovative solution.I could even encourage you to include to add a small transparent skylight so the canopy doesn’t feel claustrophobic, or a mini clip to hang a handkerchief or sanitizer. These human touches create emotional attachment.
  • This idea is really cool and this is what me travelling to college and my father going to office waiting for.But a suggestion would be to print clear usage warnings and safety stickers (“For stationary use only”). Include a small auto-lock when the bike starts to prove it can’t be misused. It builds confidence and avoids regulatory pushback.
  • Test your prototype in crowded junctions — make sure it can be set up within 5 seconds, without dismounting. The faster and smoother it feels, the more people will use it regularly.
And also give it a name that feels hopeful and human, like “ShadeMate,” “RideSafe,” or “SuryaGuard.” A simple, relatable identity helps people remember and believe in your mission.
  • This is a really useful and thoughtful idea. It solves a common problem that many two-wheeler riders face every day in India. The foldable and lightweight design makes it practical and easy to use, unlike bulky or expensive options. The idea of quickly deploying it at signals and folding it before riding is smart and safe. It’s also nice that it’s affordable and meant for everyone, not just premium users. Overall, it’s a simple but impactful idea that could make daily travel much more comfortable for riders.
  • Test your prototype in crowded junctions — make sure it can be set up within 5 seconds, without dismounting. The faster and smoother it feels, the more people will use it regularly.Highlight how your canopy can reduce accidents, heat fatigue, and healthcare costs, and even encourage cleaner air (since fewer riders rush red lights or idle in rain). It’s not just convenience — it’s public well-being.
