PennyWise - Never Overpay Again.

In today’s digital age, shopping online has become second nature. From groceries to gadgets, everything is just a click away. However, the biggest frustration for consumers is never knowing whether they are paying the lowest possible pricePrices vary across platforms, coupons are scattered, and cashback deals often go unnoticed. Current tools like Honey only apply coupons, while price trackers show limited history without predicting future drops.

There’s no all-in-one solution for truly smart savings.

Pennywise is a website and extension that:

  • Tracks product prices across platforms (Amazon, Meesho, Myntra, Nykaa, Croma, Trivago, Zostel etc.).
  • Predicts when the price will drop (using historical pricing: e.g., “this usually gets 30% off during Big Billion Days”).
  • Auto-applies coupons, bank offers, and hidden discounts.
  • Suggests sidepaths like:
    Buy refurbished instead of new.
    Cheaper seller options.
    Nearby offline store deals.
Wait X days to save Y%.
  • Personalization: alerts you when an item you want hits your “target price”.
  • Community to discuss insider options like backdoor routes or wholesaler deals.

Why it matters?

Indians are extremely price-sensitive (small % discount drives huge shifts).
E-commerce platforms deliberately make pricing confusing with coupons, bank offers, and flash sales.
A neutral “shopping intelligence” tool puts power back in the buyer’s hands.

Students looking for affordable products get ‘but now or wait’ advice. Nothing beats a Jet Two holiday!😀Right now, you can save 50 pounds💷per person!🤑🎉Thats 200 pounds💷off for a family👨‍👩‍👧‍👦of four!👯‍♀️👍. Tracks subscriptions and nudges when renewal is cheaper. Real time comparison of deals for small businesses that purchase bulk supplies online. PennyWise helps people stretch their income further, making shopping smarter and reducing the anxiety of missing out on deals.

This problem matters to me because I’ve personally seen how friends, family, and even myself often regret purchases after realizing the same product was cheaper elsewhere. In a world where every rupee counts, especially for students and middle-class households, saving intelligently can make a real difference. This can become a huge trust-based consumer brand. The website that guarantees you never overpay online.

Tech details:

Web scraping + APIs to gather prices. ML models to forecast price drops based on seasonal/sale trends. Browser extension for auto-apply coupons. WhatsApp bot for rural/Tier-2 users (“send link to get best deal alert”).

Revenue from affiliate commissions, premium users, and brand partnerships etc.

Special thanks to a dear friend for helping me shape and clarify these ideas.

  • This is a really clever idea that addresses a core frustration of online shopping. The all in one approach of price tracking, coupons, and cashback is a powerful value proposition. Nice one Varshika.
  • I NEED THIS APP GURL ID BE YOUR NO1 CUSTOMER but how will you convince users that you're securely handling their data and not just reselling it to advertisers? MAKE IT ASAP
  • Pennywise tackles a genuine pain point and has strong potential to become a trusted consumer tool but the execution risks are high due to technical complexity, competition, legal constraints, and the need to gain user trust. A focused, reliable MVP with clear differentiation will be key to success. All in all, this is a great tool most people will immediately pick up because of its user friendliness
  • This is an awesome idea! My suggestion would be to create a strong privacy policy and security plan, as users will be sharing sensitive browsing and financial data. Good luck Varshika
  • The idea of using AI to predict price drops and auto-apply all possible discounts is a total game-changer. I have faced so many problems this way where I buy a product and then the price goes down like wtf I'm ready to download this yesterday! Waitinggg
  • Really useful idea. I especially liked the Whatsapp bot feature which allows non technical people to also access and use the tool. Timely ads and reminders of a product's price fluctuation would urge more users to subscribe. Maybe adding a disclaimer for sketchy sites which promise fake prices or faulty products might address scam concerns.
  • Nice idea, but I feel it’s over ambitious. How will you ensure accuracy across all platforms, deal with changing prices, and protect user privacy? Also the UI & onboarding need to be super smooth or people will drop off quickly. Nevertheless, it's something really needed.
  • This is an absolute game changer! The idea of having a one-stop-shop that not only tracks prices but also predicts future drops is pure genius. This isn't just a convenience tool, it's a superpower for online shoppers! I can't wait to see this in action!
  • This is a great idea that solves a real problem for online shoppers! The use of ML for price prediction and the community aspect are especially innovative. How will you ensure user data is protected, especially since the tool tracks browsing and links to payment information? But nice idea, Varshika!
  • I absolutely love this idea ,it’s incredibly relatable for students and directly addresses common pain points with innovative, scalable solutions. 🫶🏽

The predictive feature that tells users when it’s the right time to buy is what I was missing from these existing tools and leading to me buying items when they were at their highest prices 😔

I will be running to this website in the future! 🏃‍♀️

I also like the addition of a community element it gives people the chance to connect with like minded people - though ensuring accuracy, safety, and positivity in that space will be essential to maintain trust in a customer centric tool, especially if predictions aren’t always perfect and ensure the image of the brand stays protected.

That said, I’m confident you can handle these small challenges for an idea with huge prospects! ⭐️
