The Problem

Every day, particularly during the 10 AM to 12 PM peak hours, hundreds of students at Mahindra University face a frustrating search for a parking spot in the Multi-Level Car Park (MLCP). This daily hunt involves slowly circling three floors, wasting valuable time and fuel, only to potentially find the lot completely full. This inefficient process leads to unnecessary stress and frequent tardiness for mid-morning classes and labs, impacting a significant portion of the student body.

The Proposed Solution

ParkSmart MU is a smart parking guidance system designed to eliminate the guesswork and frustration of finding a parking spot. The system works by installing small, ultrasonic sensors above each parking bay to detect vehicle presence in real-time.This information is then relayed to Large Digital Displays at the entrance of the MLCP, showing the exact number of vacant spots available on each floor (P1: 17 | P2: 8 | P3: FULL).

Problems Solved

By providing accurate, real-time data, ParkSmart MU transforms the chaotic parking routine into a seamless, efficient process. It drastically cuts down search time from 10-15 minutes to under a minute, directly reducing fuel consumptionand associated carbon emissions. Most importantly, it alleviates the stress and anxiety for students rushing to class, ensuring they can arrive on campus calm and ready to learn.

Why It Works

The solution is highly effective and simple to adopt.Users can benefit from the large digital displays. The system is scalable, starting with the main MLCP and potentially expanding to other student-designated parking areas. It aligns perfectly with the vision of a "Smart Campus," leveraging simple technology to solve a tangible, daily problem and improving the quality of student life.

Who Will Get Benefited

  • Students (especially commuters arriving for the 10 AM-12 PM peak class schedule)

  • University Administration (by improving campus logistics and student experience)

  • The Environment (through reduced fuel wastage)

Call for Feedback

I believe this idea can solve a real, daily frustration for many of us. As I develop this concept for the Lean Startup course, your feedback is essential.

What is the biggest potential flaw or challenge you see in implementing this system on our campus? I'm looking for honest, critical feedback.

  • This is a well-structured and very relevant idea that addresses a clear pain point on campus. The biggest potential challenge I see is maintenance and reliability of the sensors—if even a few fail or misreport, students may lose trust in the system. Another concern could be installation costs and long-term upkeep, since ultrasonic sensors and large displays require both infrastructure and regular servicing. Finally, behavioral adoption might be tricky; students may still drive up to “double check” unless the system proves accurate over time
  • Such a practical and impactful idea! ParkSmart MU directly addresses a daily student pain point with a simple yet powerful tech solution. Cutting search time, saving fuel, and reducing stress all while supporting a smarter, greener campus—this is exactly the kind of innovation that makes student life better.
  • “This is a really good idea and would save us a lot of time, but the biggest challenge I see is the cost and maintenance of all those sensors. If they break or give wrong data, people might stop trusting the system.”
  • I really like how this idea directly improves student life. The only gap I see is in ensuring long-term accuracy and reliability of the sensors—if they give wrong data even occasionally, students may quickly lose confidence in the system. I think addressing this issue as you build on the idea would make the solution successful.
  • This is a smart and practical idea! ParkSmart MU directly tackles a daily pain point for students while also saving time, fuel, and stress. It’s simple, scalable, and perfectly fits the smart campus vision.
  • This is a brilliant idea that directly addresses a daily pain point for students. The simplicity and real-time accuracy of ParkSmart MU make it both practical and impactful. It not only saves time and reduces stress but also supports a greener campus, aligning well with smart university goals.
  • ParkSmart directly addresses a clear, daily student pain point with a simple, scalable solution that enhances efficiency and aligns with the smart campus vision. However, installation and maintenance costs, sensor durability, and ensuring accurate real-time data in heavy traffic could challenge adoption. A pilot program would validate feasibility and ROI.
  • It’s a great idea with real impact, but the main challenge I see is managing installation costs and keeping the sensors reliable long-term. If that’s addressed, it could work really well.
  • This is a well-defined and excellent idea that targets a highly frustrating, tangible problem for commuters. The concept is sound and aligned with "Smart Campus" goals.
  • This is a brilliant example of using simple, proven technology to solve a very real student problem. The fact that it saves time, reduces stress, and even contributes to sustainability makes it a well-rounded solution that fits perfectly into a smart campus vision
