Problem:

On large university campuses, students frequently lose important belongings like ID cards, books, chargers, and water bottles. The current system of finding them depends on WhatsApp groups, word of mouth, or notice boards, which is unorganized and unreliable. This causes stress, wasted time, and unnecessary expenses for students who must replace lost items, while many found items remain unclaimed in the admin office.

Solution:

A Campus Lost & Found App where students can easily report lost or found items. The app would allow users to upload a description and photo, automatically match lost and found reports, and send notifications when a possible match is detected. Verification can be done through student IDs or item-specific details, ensuring security and trust. Integration with the campus administration’s lost & found desk would make the process more reliable.

Market Gap:

Most universities in India do not have a structured digital lost & found system. The process remains manual, informal, and inefficient. While e-commerce and delivery apps have solved convenience problems for food and shopping, no dedicated solution exists for the recurring problem of lost belongings on campus. This presents a strong opportunity to introduce a centralized, student-friendly lost & found platform.

Benefits:

  • Students: Saves time and money, reduces stress, and improves chances of recovering valuable items.

  • Colleges: Simplifies lost-item management, reduces admin burden, and enhances campus facilities.

  • Community: Encourages students to help each other, building a stronger, more collaborative culture.

Why It Matters:

As a student, I’ve seen how frustrating it is when someone loses an ID card, book, or charger and has no reliable way to get it back. A simple app can make student life smoother, reduce unnecessary expenses, and create a sense of community on campus. In the long run, the model can scale to corporate offices, malls, and public spaces, becoming a widely used lost & found solution across India.
