Idea Title: Accessible Campus Navigation App

Large campuses of colleges and universities are confusing for new students, guests, or even staff. Students, and even staff, tend to waste time looking for classrooms, labs, offices, or facilities. Especially for differently-abled students, they also need accessible paths (e.g., elevators or ramps).

Gaps in Current Solutions:

Google Maps supports navigation but not detailed indoor paths inside campuses. Institutions mostly offer static PDFs or printed maps, which are not interactive and promptly become obsolete.

Solution Proposed:

A Smart Campus Navigation App which:

Offers step-by-step directions within the campus.

Has accessibility filters (e.g., ramp/elevator-based routes for wheelchair users).

Integrates with the timetable of the university, thus allowing students to automatically get directions for the next class.

Displays real-time notifications regarding closed spaces, events, or room modifications.

May incorporate a "find my friend" component for easy student meetings.

Who It Helps:

New Students & Visitors → Time-saving, less confusion.

Differently-abled Students → Accessible, convenient navigation.

Faculty & Staff → Seamlessly manage time traveling between classes/meetings.

Campus Management → Project a new, technology-enabled campus.

Why This Matters to Me:

I have seen many new students, particularly during orientation week, getting lost trying to find their classes. Such an app would minimize stress, save time, and make campuses more accessible.

Technical Details (optional):

QR code or Wi-Fi/Bluetooth beacon-based indoor mapping.

Mobile app interface with filtering and searching capabilities.

Admin dashboard for updating schedules and maps.

  • Good point about Google Maps not working well inside campuses—this fills a real gap.
  • Perhaps you could add an emergency feature to guide students to the nearest exit during fire or earthquake drills.
  • Perhaps you could add an emergency feature to guide students to the nearest exit during fire or earthquake drills.
  • Great concept, but how will you handle indoor navigation in buildings without GPS?
  • Maybe you can add a feature to show real-time bus/shuttle timings inside the campus.
  • I like that you included accessibility support—it _makes_ the app inclusive for differently-abled students.
  • This is a very practical idea! New students always get lost on campus, so it would save a lot of time.
  • Overall, it’s a smart idea that combines technology and student convenience—very useful if implemented well.
  • This idea could also help visitors during campus fests or events who don’t know the layout
  • The “find my friend” feature sounds fun, but it should have privacy controls
