Campus ride-sharing app

As a day scholar at Mahindra University, I face a common problem every evening. My classes often finish around 6:30 PM, and at that time it becomes difficult to book a reliable cab or auto. Even when I do manage to book, many rides get cancelled at the last moment, causing delays and unnecessary stress. At the same time, I see many students coming to campus in their own cars, often driving alone with empty seats.

This gap gave me the idea of creating a Campus Ride-Sharing App exclusively for Mahindra University students. The app would connect students traveling to similar locations so they can share rides. Vehicle owners can list their available seats, while riders can request to join. The cost of fuel can then be shared among everyone, making the trip economical for both sides.

Unlike general ride-sharing platforms, this app will be limited to verified Mahindra University students and staff, ensuring trust and safety. Features such as in-app verification, live location sharing, SOS alerts, and secure payments will make the system reliable.

The direct beneficiaries are students like me, who will save money, avoid last-minute cancellations, and reach home on time. Vehicle owners also benefit by reducing their fuel costs, while the community gains through reduced traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions.

This problem matters to me because I face it every single day. A student-focused ride-sharing solution will not only save time and money but also foster stronger connections within the Mahindra University community.

  • This is such a practical and smart idea! You’ve clearly identified a real problem and offered a well-thought-out solution. The focus on safety, verification, and community makes it stand out. Great work, Dhatri — this could go big!
  • Interesting idea, Dhatri. The concept definitely addresses a common problem students face, though the real challenge would be in implementation and ensuring consistent user participation. Still, it’s a solid starting point worth exploring further.
  • Really impressive concept! A verified campus-only ride-sharing app is a game changer. Love how you’ve thought of both convenience and safety. Keep going — this has real potential
  • Very thoughtful approach! It’s not just about ride-sharing but also about building a safer and more connected student community. Loved it!
  • Amazing thought! Solving everyday transport problems while promoting sustainability — that’s what innovation is all about. Great job!
  • The idea is practical, affordable, and community-driven, the perfect combo for campus life. Hope it actually gets implemented soon!
  • Great idea! Solves a real problem many students face daily. The campus-only approach makes it feel safer and more reliable.
  • This is a thoughtful and well-articulated idea that addresses a real and relatable problem for many students. The proposal clearly highlights the pain point, offers a practical solution, and considers safety and sustainability aspects, which adds great value. One suggestion would be to include a brief mention of how you plan to encourage user adoption — for example, through incentives or initial awareness campaigns — as this could strengthen the feasibility and impact of your idea.
  • Wow, this idea hits hard! Even at IIIT-H, cabs during peak hours are a nightmare. The concept of restricting access only to verified university members makes so much sense for safety reasons. You’ve thought about verification, payment, and SOS features — it’s not just an idea, it’s a proper plan. If you ever plan to build this prototype, I’d love to see how it scales across other universities. Super initiative
  • This idea genuinely feels like something born out of real student life struggles. Evening cab cancellations are such a daily headache, and your solution addresses that perfectly. What I love is how it’s not just about convenience but about building a campus community that helps each other. The verified-student concept adds a real layer of trust. Maybe you could even add a rating or “ride buddy” feature to strengthen connections further. Overall, it’s a smart and heartfelt innovation.
