Campus ride-sharing app

As a day scholar at Mahindra University, I face a common problem every evening. My classes often finish around 6:30 PM, and at that time it becomes difficult to book a reliable cab or auto. Even when I do manage to book, many rides get cancelled at the last moment, causing delays and unnecessary stress. At the same time, I see many students coming to campus in their own cars, often driving alone with empty seats.

This gap gave me the idea of creating a Campus Ride-Sharing App exclusively for Mahindra University students. The app would connect students traveling to similar locations so they can share rides. Vehicle owners can list their available seats, while riders can request to join. The cost of fuel can then be shared among everyone, making the trip economical for both sides.

Unlike general ride-sharing platforms, this app will be limited to verified Mahindra University students and staff, ensuring trust and safety. Features such as in-app verification, live location sharing, SOS alerts, and secure payments will make the system reliable.

The direct beneficiaries are students like me, who will save money, avoid last-minute cancellations, and reach home on time. Vehicle owners also benefit by reducing their fuel costs, while the community gains through reduced traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions.

This problem matters to me because I face it every single day. A student-focused ride-sharing solution will not only save time and money but also foster stronger connections within the Mahindra University community.

  • This is a very relatable and practical idea — it clearly addresses a real daily problem for students while promoting cost savings, safety, and sustainability. Limiting it to verified campus members is smart, as it builds trust and accountability. The combination of convenience, community-building, and eco-friendliness makes this solution compelling for both riders and drivers.
  • Such a thoughtful idea! The daily struggle to find a reliable ride can be so frustrating, especially when classes finish late. A campus-specific ride-sharing app would solve so many problems and bring the university community together. Plus, the cost-saving and environmental benefits are a huge plus!
  • This is exactly the kind of solution we need! With so many students driving alone, sharing rides could make things so much more convenient and economical. Plus, the added focus on safety with in-app verification is reassuring. I really hope this app gets developed soon

  • Great idea! A ride-sharing app just for MU students solves daily commute issues, saves money, ensures safety, and builds community—all while reducing traffic and emissions.
  • This is a really thoughtful and practical idea! It directly addresses a daily challenge faced by many students while also promoting eco-friendly practices and community bonding. To make it even stronger, you could consider adding features like a rating system for both drivers and riders to enhance trust, and maybe an option to schedule regular rides in advance. That way, students with similar routines can coordinate better and rely on the app for consistent travel.

Plus, sharing rides not only saves money but also helps us connect with each other while being eco-friendly. Love the idea!
  • Great idea! It solves daily commute issues while keeping it safe. I feel like this also gives students a chance to network with peers from other departments. Adding a feature that shows the route or direction of each ride would make it even easier for students to choose the best option.
