PROBLEM:
Whenever I travel somewhere and I look up places to see and to eat I'm never satisfied with the results because it never shows me unseen discoveries and local and authentic places to eat which are rich with culture and not just fancy restraunts with generic food. When people travel, they usually end up visiting the same tourist attractions that everyone else does. This often makes the trip feel repetitive and commercial rather than personal and unique. At the same time, many locals who could offer authentic experiences - such as teaching traditional recipes, giving guided tours of hidden spots and discovering hidden gems, or sharing cultural practices- don"t have a platform to reach travelers.
Current travel platforms(like Airbnb Experiences or GetYourGuide) mostly focus on big cities and commercial operators. Smaller towns and everyday locals are left out, and travelers who want authentic, community based activities often struggle to find them.
SOLUTION:
My idea is to create a Local Experience Marketplace, a platform that directly connects travelers with locals offering authentic activities.
- For travelers: They can discover unique cultural, food, art, and adventure experiences beyond mainstream tourism.
- For locals: It gives them an opportunity to earn money by sharing their culture and skills without needing to be professional tour operators.
- For communities: It keeps tourism income within the community and promotes sustainable, inclusive travel.
The platform would work as a simple app/ website where locals can list their experiences, travelers can browse and book them, and both sides can build trust through reviews and verification.
This solves the problem of repetitive tourism by opening the door to meaningful, human-centered travel experiences.
